Expensive place close to Pavilion High End Shopping mall. Was told it is normally FULL, but this day was EMPTY, good food, but a bit over the top.

OK, if you've been round KL for a while, you'll know that "fine dining" can be a bit hit-and-miss, especially when the theme is European. But, if you do want to go French while you're here, Maison Francaise is a good choice. The food in...general is good (especially the seared fois gras - but then again I'm a sucker for fois gras), but what made the meal for me was the cheeseboard. I had five excellent French cheeses, all faultless and mercifully at the right temperature (there is nothing worse than a great cheese that is chilled to death). Prices are not cheap (similar to a good French restaurant in Europe), but worth it if you're missing your European comforts. They also have a good wine list,More

We were here for a birthday party. When discussing the menu, prior to the actual function, a request was made to feed the band. Only two guests were champagne drinkers, the others liked wine/cocktails. When the bill came we were charged for 6 bottles of...champagne, which made the bill very expensive. This was queried, but the manager said 6 bottles had been opened! The next day my daughter went to the restaurant for a supposed "Refund". Only RM80 was offered! When questioned, the manager said that the high bill was because the band members were given lobster as part of their meal!! This is totally ludicrous. The restaurant was instructed to feed the band, but obviously within moderation. That, & the supposed excessive champagne (which was not consumed by the party) means that this restaurant will not attract future customers if they are ripped off like this. The manager has a lot of explaining to do. As a footnote, the food was very mediocre & certainly not FINE DINING! My advice is avoid this place.More

I love French cuisine and I was looking forward to have a nice meal at Maison Francaise having read about it before. Besides, there are not a huge selection of French restaurants in KL to begin with. So, when we arrived at the restaurant it...looked pretty impressive. It was an old bungalow located at Kia Peng which is one of the more affluent areas in the city I was told. We were seated and given menu. It was a Friday night and had made reservation earlier for dinner. I noticed there were more waiters and waitresses than diners which made me think 'Oh that's why they're hovering' at this table' rather than just one person attending to us. No biggie just slightly odd. The bungalow must have once been quite impressive but as a restaurant it looked pretty ordinary. So we chose our meals and decided to not have wine. The reaction by the waiter when we said 'No, we're not having wine' after he suggested some, was more like he was annoyed. I understand it's a French restaurant but we don't want wine and we shouldn't explain ourselves for it and made to feel bad about it. Again..quite odd. So we waited for our meals. We had ordered entrees. It never came. We waited for a long time and thought they were still preparing it when our mains arrived. When I asked, the waiter said 'Oh do you want us to make it now?' I was shocked and said no thank you. He didn't apologise, nothing. Very odd, almost untrained. But it's OK. Then we tasted the food. When I mentioned earlier how I love my French cuisine, I wasn't kidding. The food was not great. I think if we were treated better considering there were not even many diners that night, I wouldn't mind about the food. I mean there's always hits and misses which is fine. But there's nothing that was great that night. I was quite disappointed. When it was time to pay, there were like three waiters around our table. It made me wonder if there was an incident of a customer running away without paying before because the level of hovering made us quite nervous. Anyway, that was my experience. It wasn't pleasant, food wasn't great, service was odd. I won't be going again when there are many other good family friendly restaurants in the city.More

A whole new low for French cuisine. We reserved a table for 3 on Valentine’s Day, but we were brought to a table for 2. The wine knowledge of the staff were extremely poor and we didn’t end up ordering a bottle because they were...clueless!! The food was horrible. The portions were small (expected), the presentation was poor, and the taste was not great. We definitely did not expect this kind of food and service when we were paying 308++ per person. We waited a very long time between dishes, and we waited at least 25 minutes for the dessert. At this point, one would expect a dessert with wow factor. However, what we got was an upside down cupcake in some melted ice cream broth, topped with some ‘creativity’ (a heart shaped chocolate). We were speechless, who has the guts to serve 70% melted ice cream? We cannot even give it 1 star rating!More

Staff members are friendly and polite, and the meal started in a very promising way, but.. while the starters were very good, the main courses did not live up to expectations! It is almost as if they changed chefs halfway through. We ordered the Degustation...menu with three starters, two main courses and dessert. They were very accommodating in substituting one of the starters and the dessert to better suit our taste. The starters were very nice, but when it came to the main course the cod was hard to the point inedible and the steak was very chewy and rubbery, In general the food was very quick, except when it came to dessert. We had agreed to substitute the dessert with the vanilla souffle at the beginning when we were ordering. However, the waiter informed us that the souffle needed 40 minutes to be prepared after we were done with the main course, as if we had ordered it right then! It gave us the impression that either our order was miscommunicated or forgotten by kitchen staff. Also, we had indicated in the reservation that my daughter was allergic to nuts and have told the waiters numerous times. She was still served with dishes containing nuts twice (the waiter didn't even know that macaroons by definition contain nuts). We had to ask about every single dish and they changed two of her dishes after being served. This in my opinion is dangerous. In general I found this restaurant overrated and overpriced. Not an experience I care to repeat!More

Went to Maison Francaise twice last month with a group of friends to celebrate a special birthday. The service was impeccable and every single dish was amazingly good. Everything was in par and even better than food I had in France! The rich lobster bisque...was so good, and had the same one in my recent visit as well. The steak was presented very nicely with beautiful garnish and sauce. The wine list goes on and on withe some of the best wines of the world. Never seen list like this even at many European Michelin Starred restaurants. I highly recommend Maison Francaise for those wanting VIP service and Michelin started restaurant quality in KL.More

We had the Degustation menu and it was excellent. The ambience is pleasant and quiet and ideal for couples or small groups. I would certainly recommend the place for the quality of the food and the feeling of being in a house rather than a...commercial building. The food was not matched by the service which was mediocre and the worse faux pas of the service was committed by the manager who removed my second course plate before my companion had finished that course and served my third course and out theirs on a nearby table until they’d finished; this may be acceptable in TGI Friday but it’s not the kind of service I’d expect in a restaurant of the calibre (or aspiring to it). The desert was not as detailed on the menu and when I pointed this out I was told “people didn’t like that so we changed it”. Well I chose the Degustation menu because I liked the sound of that desert and may well have chosen the Gourmand menu otherwise and in a proper restaurant the description on the menu would precisely reflect the food I was to be served; if there’s a change then you should tell the customer before they choose. It’s a pity such great food is spoiled by such middling service.More

This has got to be the worst fine dining experience a person can go through. Horrible, and I mean horrendous service with mediocre food at best.

Dined here with friends on a weekday evening in July. A beautiful setting in an old house, tastefully modernized to create a relaxed and intimate setting. A quiet sophisticated atmosphere without being stuffy or overly formal with tables set far enough apart to give a...feeling of privacy, without feeling empty. The food was superb. We had the gourmet menu - French cuisine, which would not have been out of place in some of Paris' top restaurants and an unusually good red wine, just on the point of perfect maturity. Service was excellent. Attentive and knowledgeable without being pushy. A lovely evening. I'd really recommend Maison Francaise and would certainly visit again - with friends or for a romantic dinner. Would also be good for a close business dinner.More

This is our second visit. The food seems to be going downhill and overrated by reviews in TripAdvisor. Food: Based on this visit, many of the food were quite raw, including prawns. Value: Very steep and not worth the money Environment: Nice and elegant Service:...Food serve wrongly to customers around the table resulting some have to wait for the dish to be prepared again from the kitchen. Seems to be due untrained staff or issues with their system in waiting tables. Tips: Avoid parking inside the restaurant compound, though the restaurant is in a bungalow lot they still charge a hefty parking fee, where parking should be complimentary for patrons of the restaurant.More
