I came here in Dec 2019 for brunch and coffee on a Saturday. Quite a busy place and we were allocated some bad seats near the toilets. Service was efficient and the food and coffee were very good. Prices were very reasonable when compared with what one would pay for the same items in Singapore. We paid 94 MYR for 2 brunch mains, 2 coffees and an orange juice.

VCR is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. However, it does get pretty crowded hence you might want to go early!
Soft Shell Crab Burger (RM 28)
The soft shell crab was sliced in half and deep fried with a nice crispy texture and looked a little like it was crawling out of the burger. It was rested on a furikake sunny side up which was firm giving the diner the pleasure of bursting the oh-so-tempting yoke. All the goodness was tucked between fluffy burger buns which held it together with homemade tar tar sauce and onion jam. A very refreshing twist to a classic burger.
Recommended? We absolutely loved how the eggs were so firm with all the ingredients coming together between the sesame buns
Turkish Style Eggs (RM 25)
Who doesn’t love sizzling hot eggs served on a cast iron pan? The eggs arrived sizzling hot and were garnished with a rich pomodoro sauce with chick peas, thinly sliced chipolata sausages, a dollop of greek yoghurt and complete with a drizzle of pistachio giving the dish its lovely crunch.
Recommended? The dish was extremely flavourful. But with the juicy sliced sausages, it just made us keep digging our spoon in for more

We went on a Sunday, we were 9 people and we have struggled to find a table together. Staff were unwelcoming and didn’t help us to eat together. We recommande you to come no more than 4 on week ends because there is no reservation. However, food was delicious, beautiful, generous and prices are fair for this kind of food.

One of our favourite cafes to date in the Klang Valley area. But are they able to deliver the same quality for their take away? Therefore do take note that this review is on their food take away!
Pennsylvania’s Soul (RM 24.99)
A dish cleverly put together where savoury meets sweet. Waffles should usually be served nice and crispy emitting a delightful crunch when you scrape it with your knife. However, the main enemy when in a take away is condensation. Which was the case today, where the waffles turned up soggy. However, the chicken was pretty flavourful and a little spicy with the pomelo giving the dish a lovely and refreshing crunch.
Lemon Tart (RM 12)
Taste: Just like dining at the cafe, the tart was rich in flavour and the pastry was quite light making it the perfect dessert to end any meal.
All in all quite a delicious meal.

Food here is very very overpriced for the quality and quantity.
Spent 95 MYR for three people (that with sharing). Do note the extra 10-15 myr service tax charges. But very underwhelming.
Turkish eggs taste good but are NOT worth 30 MYR, felt like they used canned peas and pizza sauce, and would take max 10 MYR to make. Coffee was pretty bad, the espresso just not high quality.
The VCR Breakfast had very good sausages (the best thing), but the scrambled eggs were NOT creamy and undercooked. The sourdough is also very low quality/bad, isnt toasted crispy enough and is just chewey and too tough. Placed an entire whole tomato roasted on the tip only on the plate, which isnt expected from a reputed Cafe. Salad was alright, Bolognese good, mushrooms ok. BUT THE QUANTITY??
The quantity is a slap in the face for a 40 MYR *SINGLE* item from the menu. Could feed a family of 5 the same breakfast in that amount of money. Pricing and portion sizing is just out of control.
Even the complimentary WATER didnt taste good. The glasses dusty and dirty, what a shame.
Dont understand how it is a highly rated restaurant at all. Hope they improve sooner or later. Puts such a bad impression on foreigners like myself about the quality of food in Malaysia, most places are just too overrated.
Suggestion: Please allow some off-menu food orders such as ordering a mix of things from what is available/ ordering some extra sides if needed, would help make it more affordable.

ABSOLUTELY disgusted. It says there are gluten free options and vegan options but this is not the case. We waited 40 minutes to be told that we had to pay before they could make our food and drinks… the guy just forgot to tell us. Meaning our coffees came after over 1h of waiting, and after being told they could not substitute the gluten on the dish for something else, even though they state they have a gluten free options. they offered us plain salad. they were more interested in getting people to sit down and inviting people in then actually taking care of customers already waiting. honestly not good. do not recommend for those with allergies or food preferences. 1/10.

Little cafe in an old building. I ordered the granola and hands down one of the best I’ve eaten in this life. Scrumptious! The Pennsylvania dish was a lil bit too spicy and not enjoyable to eat.

We took Nordic breakfasts, orange juices, cafe lattes and peach tea. Everything was delicious! Service is ok. Good spaces for visitors inside and also couple of table outside. I highly recommend!

This was one of the best soy-mochas I have ever had and the avocado toast was delicious. VCR was always busy when I went in so I guess that shows how good it is. Staff are attentive without being intrusive (I am English so I appreciate that a lot!)
We never had to wait too long for our orders to arrive and the staff were extremely helpful with seating regarding my father and his wheelchair.) I would definitely return when I am next in this area.

Weekends and public holidays are No-Laptop-Days. Fine. I carried a backpack. After I ordered and payed at the counter (yes, they follow the Starbucks model) a waitress approached me and demanded to know whether there was a laptop inside my backpack. I didn't even attempt to take it out. I only wanted a breakfast. She kept on insisting. I asked to see the manager to complain about the intrusion into my privacy. The manager only showed up after I personally asked the guy at the counter to see her. She came up repeatedly with "because" before she eventually said sorry. The food was also mediocre. I had a sourdough bread with smokend salmon and scrambled eggs, The salmon was good, but the scrambeld eggs were soggy and the egg white partly still fluid..

The cafe itself is kinda off putting the entrance was full of people smoking and despite there being a lot of staff, upstairs was full of tables covered in food and plates that had not been cleaned away yet.
The water glasses were dirty and dusty. This is an easy fix and someone else has mentioned the same thing in their review recently. No excuse for bad hygiene.
The coffee was good but nothing outstanding.
The smoked salmon and eggs were excellent the eggs weren’t over cooked and the toast was crispy and flavourful. Plenty of salmon!
The carbonara was excellent very smoky flavour and pasta was plentiful.
Price is very high for the offerings

Solid breakfast/brunch spot with a small but tasty menu. Highly recommend the Turkish breakfast (chickpeas in a tomato based sauce with pistachios, 2 eggs, sourdough and some yogurt) or if not the triple cheese toastie.
They also have a range of fresh cakes/brownies.

By far the best coffee and breakfast we’ve had in KL! We have been here multiple times and the few times we tried somewhere different we were disappoint and ended up back here for a better coffee anyway! The lattes are nice big sizes, the granola is so fresh and tasty (we bought a pack to take away as well it was that good) the croissants are beautiful and flaky made in layers as opposed to doughy (how croissants should be IMO), the three cheese toasty is also a big hit.
The atmosphere is trendy and inviting and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Would 100% recommend if you are coming to KL, seriously going to miss the coffee when we head back to Australia.

Great food with beautiful presentation. The coffee is excellent and they offer oat milk for coffee beverages. Staff are friendly and helpful.
We visited on a weekend and the upper level was full of children watching shows on tablets with volume on high. It seemed strange that a place so committed to avoiding laptops allows this behaviour, as it disrupts the meals of other visitors.
This was the most expensive meal we ate in Malaysia. Great food but be prepared for some sticker shock.

Everything on the menu and in the cabinet sounded and looked nice so it was hard to choose. The coffee is outstanding and the food equally so. We had the soft shell crab burger and the granola and fruit. Will be going back again probably today!
