Simple place that looks a little bit dilapidated, BUT the food here is to die for!
Ok to jump right in, as mentioned the place looks run down, situated a few mins walk from Berjaya Times Square (it's actually at the intersection of Jln Changkat...Thambi Dollah & Jln 1/77B) & can be mistaken for a huge carpark (that's because there's a open spaced carpark right next to it) when they aren't open for business yet. It is identifiable by the tall towers of metal steamers for the soups. At time of visit, there is ongoing road works (estimated to end 2021) so please be careful if you drive!
I visited this place on each of my trips to Kuala Lumpur as I felt that the food was good & it isn't pricey (dining in KL can get quite expensive given it is a city). Only con was the availability of seating areas (which wasn't a problem as I was alone, & can easily share tables with others)
Sit right down at a table of your choosing & someone will come along to take your orders. It may be a little challenging for patrons who do not speak Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin or dialects (Cantonese or Hokkien/Teochew) but there is no need to worry. Just look around, & point! One of the signature soups is the Double-boiled Coconut Chicken soup. Pieces of chicken meat, along with some herbs & goji berries are boiled in coconuts. It smells great & they do not stinge on the ingredients. Other soups include double boiled Sea Turtle soup, Ox Tail Soup, Ginseng Chicken, frog leg's soup, Bamboo Shoots Chicken soup & Pig's Brains soup.
Be sure to enquire about the side dishes, of which a popular dish would be the Curry with Wild Boar's Meat. The meat is slightly tougher than stewed pork, & the curry is thick (the consistency is more like broth). Pair the above with rice (an Asian staple) & you will leave truly fulfilled!
The prices aren't listed, but when I visited the total cost did not go above 21 Malaysian Ringgit (I ordered a Coconut Chicken soup, Curry Boar's meat, white rice & Iced Tea). Highly recommended if you like soups, & are looking for a homely flavor & taste with that exciting hint of the unknown (if you aren't experienced with Asian/Chinese soups).More
