Visited the place as a second option when our first one was already closed! Nice place (entrance is not easy to be located). Food was tasty, however, I have asked for non spicy (0 tolerance and mentioned it 3 times to the waiter) and my burger came out spicy even though I was reassured that the food is 0 spicy as per my request. Drinks are a bit sugary but not bad. You need to order and pay at the counter. If you go there, do not leave the place without dessert. I think this is their No1 selling point...they all taste great!! Toilets were wet but clean and must admit that I was really pleasantly surprised to see in KL a place with toilet paper (like more than half a roll) on offer and display. Friendly staff but not everyone was wearing their masks properly.

Good experience but poor food

Stumbled upon this cafe whilst in Chinatown and thought my friends and I could give it a try. Coffee was decent whereas environment was really nice. However little could be said about the food, tried their B.T.S dessert and taukay burger but the fusion just doesn't work. Price wise was as expected as it is located in probably the biggest cafe district however it just doesn't deliver on its end for food.

A place with a memory from 60's or 70's

Nice ambiance, service is good and the staff is also very friendly but they must be more attentive on certain things like letting the drinking water in the bottle wide open. I asked to change the bottle with a covered bottle as we were worried to drink water from an uncovered water bottle. We need to use the bar code to make an order. However, for cakes, orders must be made manually by the staff.

Heard and read about Merchant Lane as one of the cafes to visit. Had quite a high expectation seeing all the beautiful pictures. Super long queue before and after lunch. We wanted to come here for brunch but seeing the queue we went somewhere else instead. After lunch we walked around and ended up at Merchant Lane, so we decided to try our luck and queue. I would say we waited about 20-30minutes before we got a seat at the back/garden section. The moment i walked to the back section, my wow was extinguished. The outlook was really not as impressive as I hope it to be. Probably over hyped on social media. One thing i noticed there were a few tables that were empty, it's not close to each other but yet they left it empty and make us queue and wait at the stairs for a table. This is based on my own observation when I was there. I could probably think of one reason for doing so, to create a queue to look in demand. Anyways i could be wrong. Food/Drink is on the expensive side. My tea cost me RM17 - just for a roasted oolong. That's too expensive. I don't like the Caramel cake, a malay word to describe the feeling is Muak, means something like feeling pukey after having a few spoon (like it's too much for the mouth. My friend had the Kai Fan 4.0, he said it's good. The toilet is quite icky. I am happy to finally try this place and write it off my food list but i won't be back.

Overrated

Was there with my wife and a friend. Ordered a chicken sandwich, butter chicken pasta and a salmon dish. Everything was sweet devoid of any spice. The sandwich was doused in a sambal mayonnaise dressing which completely overwhelms the sandwich, and made eating it a really messy affair. The pasta's sauce was overly sweet. The salmon was the best out of the three, although it is still on the sweet side. Don't be fooled with the hype. Overpriced & overrated garbage. 3/10 will not go again.

With so many positive reviews I am excused wanting to give it a go. At the top of a shop up narrow stairs the typical chinese house reveals itself with 2 different rooms. The first is the main eating area, the second is more chilling with a hanging - chairs corner. The decor is to todays taste.That is the 1 star of this review. The menu looks promising but it is clearly made for the local taste. Sweet ( very) beef, nasi lemak pancake, and typically chicken in all forms. My order of tortillas was disgusting. It resembled a tortilla but did not taste anything remotely like mexican food! I did not eat much of eat as it felt like cat food. ( not sure cats would eat it). The beef was far too sweet and tough. It was served with not cooked pad choi. The bill came at Rm75. An expensive lunch that must have gone to the bins to feed ....very hungry cats? Not again.

Overrated and overpriced

I really didn’t like the food, we ordered Kg. Sg. Tua. It came like dog food. Who the hell pour gravy on a seared Salmon? Which ruin the star of the food. Sweet potato mash is bland. Vege is not cooked and seasoned properly. It’s like boiled for 10 seconds and mix dry herbs. At least cook it with butter and fresh herbs. The food presentation was poor. The environment is dusty and dirty. Please clean your lamps and at least deep clean the whole restaurant once a week. The music needs to match the environment. Please train your staff with good etiquette and service. I would not recommend this place or come here again.

Good ambience, but will not come again

Personally I felt like this is an overrated eatery. It has always been in my bucket list to try Merchant's Lane. When I finally tried it, it disappoint me so much. The place, ambience and atmosphere is definitely 5/5. Good place for picture taking and maybe a cup of coffee. But food-wise, we tried smoked duck ramen and buttermilk chicken spaghetti. Ramen was slightly overcooked, and tasted bland. Paired it with the smoked duck, still can taste the blandness of the noodle. However, smoked duck is definitely good. As for the buttermilk chicken spaghetti, fried chicken is cold when served, in the menu stated roasted capsicum but it came raw which overpowered the whole dish. Jasmine black tasted unique, but would appreciate if the tea is in a strainer for easy consumption. I would like to bring attention to the service crew. Particularly one server who is not friendly and quite rude. We don't feel welcomed the moment we step in, and he constantly just come out of nowhere to collect the cutleries and empty plates. No courtesy to note his presence instead just 'appeared' in between us several times to clean up. Immediately felt uncomfortable and left once done eating. Truly a disappointing experience for a place I've been wanting to come for so long. Price are on the higher side, 2 person (2 food, 2 drinks) cost about RM100 with such quality and service.

First of all, nice atmosphere and certainly kudos to the owner doing the good job setting the restaurant. Absolutely, IG gig place But if you wanna talks about the foods which I don’t think so. Limited food menu and the variety of food is heavy for morning or lunch per se Taste of the food is rather sweet and quality of good is average.

In need of serious clean up

This is my second time here. The first time I was here was 2 years ago maybe but the feeling was the same. First things I noticed was dust. I know if I see dust, people are not cleaning thoroughly and made me feel a bit yucky to dine there. (And I don’t know why I came here dor the second time) Yesterday, when I first came in, I was greeted by a ‘sour-faced’ front door staff. I was shown to empty table at the long bench/sofa and noticed the sofa fabric was really dirty and the cushion cover as well. I wonder how people can sit there and not wonder what kind of germs will you bring back as souvenir. I ordered the food and this time I again felt the food was so so and you can get better choices at other place with similar price and cleaner place. The vegetable was not steam properly and a bit hard to chew. I was seated next to the coffee machine and i can see with my naked eyes how thick the dust have settle under coffee machine and at the cardboard they use as their lamp cover. This made me wonder how long have they not clean this place thoroughly since they open. But yeah people came here due to interior of the cafe which is vintage rustic look with lots of instragrammable spots. Despite the pandemic, people still don’t learn their lesson on the importance of cleanliness. I am definitely wont be coming back and my advice to them, please please please consider deep cleaning of your seat and cushion and the whole place. Deep cleaning or thorough cleaning of the place should be done at least 2-4 times a year. And do consider training your front staff some basic customer service ettiquette that is to smile.

It was an embarrassment to recommend this as a meet-up place with out of town friends

The good: nice and cool environment, good location for meeting up friends and have a coffee and hide from the sun The bad: service wise it has gone bad since my last visit here and it is quite clear that there has been a massive change in management, there is no proper welcome and ordering SOP, every time I had to walk over to the counter and get stares from all the staffs clustering the counter not even asking if I need anything, quite obviously when I asked, they gave the qr code for menu, then after that I had to walk over again to place my order, they seem annoyed but so was I.. lastly, if those were to be forgiven, I ordered the usual that I used to enjoy.. the beef stew mash, but it was terrible as the stew was salty and I had to wash it down with the mash potato. But thankfully the water was free, so I had that to thank for to clear my palates.. with many more cafes around this area, I am deeply saddened that if this goes on, other cafes will be preferred and merchant’s lane will be history. There is potential but it demands immediate revamp.

It was unexpectedly gorgeous Not expecting the area is along the shop lots. You just have to walk slowly so that you won’t miss the door. The food was good and reasonably price. Just expect a slow service when they have a high number of customers.

bad experience. been scold by the old guy just because i wrongly scan the table no, im sure his not the owner of the cafe. he said i messed up the whole kitchen team because of wrongly scan table no. nonsense. asking few staff about the attitude of that guy, all of them said "old guy always like that". i hope merchant lane can take action to this of stuff.. other than that, food and drinks all good.

Rude waiters, but nice place

This place is a pretty place for photographs especially the backyard with the funky walls with artificial flowers. Went there and were so excited to order a drink. The male waiter was not welcoming and was rude. So was the female waitress with a ring under her nose. They kept telling us to sit down, choose a spot and don't keep moving around. It was rather early in the day and there were less than 8 customers in the cafe. We just wanted to seize the opportunity to take some good shots while it was quiet. We were greeted with unfriendly smiles and unwelcoming glances from these two workers. So, we left quickly, feeling disgusted and disappointed.
