Stopped for lunch on our way back from a failed scuba attempt at Athens Scuba park. Food was delicious, our server, was pleasant and courteous, and not overly attentive.

Read all the previous reviews so decided we must try it ourselves. The catfish was cooked perfectly and I had the regular dinner with a baked potato, coleslaw, tomato relish, slice of onion (I don't know why that is there?) hushpuppy and 5 pieces of catfish ($7.99) Hubby had the Fish & fries, coleslaw & hushpuppies, 3 pieces of fish... My wife and I paid a visit to the Texas Freshwater Fishery in Athens Texas and found that what was published was true with an extra dose of Southern Hospitality. The waitress was so sweet she gave us her complete family history, the Good and the Bad. Get The Broiled NOT Fried Catfish, really good. Tomato Relish, Cole Slaw, Hushpuppies... More

The food in itself is really not that bad. They have an All You Can Eat deal for cheap that includes catfish, chicken and shrimp. The decor is "HIDEOUS" Outdated, unmaintained, guest areas so you can just imagine what the kitchen looks like.

This was our third visit to the Catfish Palace. The first time was more or less by accident. I had a taste for fish and we were going to stop at the Long John Silvers next door, when we decided on the spur of the moment to drive a few feet further and stop here. Boy am I glad we... More

My coworker and I had a nice lunch here last week (I had the fried catfish, with french fries and hushpuppies), and the staff is very nice, helpful, and friendly, too.

The meals are fairly priced, and the Catfish is cooked correctly. Plus they give you more than enough to fill you up. However, the service can be a little slow if they are crowded.

We are traveling through Athens. Texas and it’s about noon time and time for lunch. Then we spot this catfish restaurant that is completely surrounded by vehicles. Must be a good place to eat! We find a parking space and park then enter the restaurant. The entrance leaves a lot to be desired. A sign indicates that we should seat... More

Food was freezer burnt! Blackened catfish looked like mush. Shrimp was over cooked popcorn shrimp was freezer burnt. The place looked nasty when we walked in and the tea was old and syrupy. We were sick the rest of the night from the little we did eat. Will never go there again!

I don't understand the negative reviews on this establishment as the food here is great! I pass through Athens many times going to Alto and had always wanted to stop and eat here. I'm so glad I did, it was delicious! I had the catfish/shrimp platter for $12.00 and it was very filling with hush puppies, cole slaw, baked potato... More
