I do a lot of solo traveling and it's interesting to experience service at restaurants. The Portofino had a nice, warm atmosphere. I was seated at a two seat table in the corner of the dining room with a nice view of the restaurant. After 10 minutes, my waiter came over with a wine list and menu. He came back... More

We came with a large group and they didn't seem able to handle that. We waited for long prestos of time in between them coming to our table. The pasta when it finally arrived was bland. Just didn't live up to the hype for us.

Things started okay, but soured when it took over an hour and salads hadn't been delivered. After pointing out other tables had their first courses and due apologies, I received my rather plain Caesar. Our main courses arrived shortly after. My pesto linguine was average - flavorful but dry. My wife was very disappointed in her bland cioppino: lots of... More

Thank you again for joining us for dinner. I was able to speak with you that evening. The waiter did concur that your salads took too long to arrive. By that point, the time had passed, I am sorry for the delay. But I can use this as an example for the waiters to alert me earlier to an issue... More

Very authentic Northern Italian restaurant. Stopped in and started with minestrone soup, which was delicious. The main course I ordered was Ravioli Portofino stuffed with goat cheese. Oh, man was it good! WOW! I was so impressed I ordered desert, which I don't normally do. I figured it would be outstanding as well. I was wrong. Desert was just average.... More

Sorry, we hosted a large group. This place didn't offer ANYTHING that would make me come back. The server reeked of BO, the food was average. The drinks where low grade well liquor and sour cab wine. I assume my host ordered low budget, as this place has much better reviews then I'm able to give. I won't b back...

We had an Italian in our party who vouched for how wonderful the food was. Great choices! Attentive staff! Cannoli to die for!

Great family owned restaurant. Real home made food with great Italian taste. It's like the food made by the "Nonna". Isn't like other "Italian" restaurants selling "industrial" food or frozen pasta this is authentic home made Italian food. Worrying about price ? is an inexpensive place and if you add the quality to the equation... it's cheap! Lgo and try... More

There were 7 in our party. When you are seated they bring you. Plate of wonderfully crusted bread with olive oil. The bread was wonderfully European. The entrees were typical of the Portofino area of Italy. So when you have a young child at the table that has a young palate standard desserts don't work. The prepared a wonderful chocolate... More

This is a warm and friendly neighborhood establishment serving tried and true Italian favorites. We were seated on the main floor, the lower level dining room was less inviting. Apps average 8.50, pasta dishes 18 and deserts 7. You won't be blown away neither will you be disappointed. Portofino is a safe bet for a good Italian meal.

Thank you for your quick review of the Portofino Restaurant. We hope to serve you again in the future. Our veranda room definitely has a different feel than the upper dining room. We have guests that enjoy both styles. More

Held our company dinner here recently. Orders were taken from the menu. I had the veal special which was very good. Salad and appetizers were also great. Bread was so good you had to so yourself from filing up on it before dinner Service was quick and efficient. Would recommend for groups and large families.

Welcome to fine dining in Crystal City!

The Portofino Restaurant was opened in 1970 as a family owned and operated Italian restaurant. They brought to Crystal City, fine Northern Italian Cuisine. Through the next three decades, Sergio and his wife Pilar welcomed thousands of guests to their award-winning restaurant.

In 1993, three generations of Micheli chefs joined forces as their son Richard, a recent graduate of the famed Culinary Institute of America, began his work at the Portofino
