I guess an American stomach can't handle the food here. We had lunch here during a city tour and the place is beautiful. The service was good and the food on the buffet tasted very good. It wasn't cheap. However, on the flight home, both my wife and I became very ill and it lasted for several days. We finally... More

I was advised to go to this place by one of my Brazilian friends and fro my it was one of my best gastronomical experience. You can't make reservations (as far as I know), so you will have to wait in a line a little bit (I waited for around 35 minutes), but imho it was totally worth it. Overall... More

We came here based on trip advisor ratings and weren't disappointed. Such a lovely spot. Be warned you may have to wait for a table. Food quite good. I even loved the toilet seat gizmo in the ladies.

Great old building with a very cool interior, but the food is mediocre at best and overpriced. There is usually a wait but turnover is relatively fast.

Breakfast here was ok. The Colombo breakfast was filling - 2 big slices of fruit, a croissant, a big slice of buttered Petropolis toast (like a brioche), ham, cheese and 2 cookies. The toast was yummy but everything else was average. Croissant was not the buttery and flaky standard. My hot chocolate and fresh orange juice were good. Husband had... More

You are definitely paying for the tourist attraction rather than the quality. Average coffee and some dubious cakes - however redeemed by an excellent Portuguese tart and interesting decor. Do expect to wait for slow service.

In Lisbon we have a confeitaria very similar to this one. We tried here the salgadinhos which were really good, cod fish fritter --bolinho de bacalhau-- and rissol de camarao -- shrimp fritter. We washed these down with natural orange juice. Excellent pit stop.

I am surprised this crowded touristy place serves great tasting food and excellent cocktails and coffee. Don't miss having a good tea break here. There is some passion fruit dessert we tried and it was unique and delicious. Even with all that crowds, the service was excellent and the place is maintained very neat. Including the restrooms.

Super busy and long wait for table.... but it worth the wait once you sit down for a cup of coffee with their delicate sweets. The decor is just beautiful!! Food is not expensive. And service is great

Pricy but excellent for a quick break - to enjoy a pastel or to have a good coffee or tea. Staff very friendly

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
