The food was amazing. "Simple" food, but not the same you can prepare at home. There´s always something different on the flavor, but something that tastes like home food. One of my favorites in town.

You have to eat here if you are in São Paulo. It's worth the drive downtown and the wait! They serve typical Brazilian food with high quality ingredients and unique recipe twists. The caipirinhas are the best! Order the Coxinhas to start with. For main dish, my favorite is the Galinhada Caipira, a rich rice with chicken and a fried... More

Huge lines, more than one-hour wait , small tables in a crowded space. The food is not bad, but It is not worth the high cost. In summary, a poor quality/cost relationship.

Our attendants, Marlene and Nega were very helpful. We had a large table with one baby and a toddler. They had feijoada. We showed up at opening time, noon, and we had a great time! Food was great! I had the tartar. And several appetizers. Definitely recommend!

My friend and I went here for a late dinner and were impressed by the friendliness of the staff. Our waiter spoke English and was extremely helpful and accommodating in making sure that we ordered dishes to our liking. The vegetarian rice was good but my dessert was OUTSTANDING! Nice choice for a decent dinner and fantastic customer service

Went there after the theater for a late dinner. The bar atmosphere is very nice, since it is located at a historical building at downtown São Paulo. They have a nice selection of drinks and beers. The food, from some unconventional ingredients, was delicious and well prepared.

Excellent bar atmosphere, food and caipirinhas. Started with moelas (shared), then galinhada and steak tartar, all very good. Together with caipirinha do Norte (caju and lime). Recommended.

We stumbled onto this famed spot, bar da dona onça, while looking for a place for dinner after our meeting. The menu is extensive and relatively expensive for Brazil, but the food is very good. While this is categorized as a "dive bar," uninitiated expats shouldn't arrive here expecting to find a rough and rugged bar scene. The food you'll... More

Staying in Republica

Neighbourhood Profile
Part of the historical centre of São Paulo, República was once a fancy residential area. República Square holds a craft and food fair every weekend, right by the subway entrance. Nearby, one of the neighbourhood’s main attractions is the Italian Building, where you can see the city from the 42nd floor. The Copan Building also deserves a close look, with 1,160 apartments and a huge floor area that inspired filmmakers and other artists. To get the feeling of São Paulo in the beginning of the 1900s, visit the Municipal Theatre – you will be amazed by its architecture. The area also features several galleries. República is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.
