So much hyperbole. So much chatter. Oh you simply must go. It really is the best. Ad infinitum.
So I went. And I was so desperately hoping Trishna was going to be the one. In a land of deities, the seafood demigod. The chosen one....Positives:
I was dining solo. And busy, expensive gaffs don’t like solo guests blocking a table. I get it. And when I called them they were clear, 7pm was better that 8pm (for them). I thought that was actually an up front reasonable concession.
The dinning room:
Four seater booths. Plenty of room too. Lovely aquariums (for looking not for eating). I liked the space. Oh yes.
The performative seafood:
The staff will bring out live crab, huge prawn and lobster to show you, the punter in a seafood restaurant, a) what these things look like, and b) how big they are. It’s hilarious. I swear the crab rolled its many eyes at one point.
The crab bibs:
Oh yes. You’ll get a bib if you order crab. Cause you’ll make a mess.
The seafood:
Hail the fish; hail the crustacean; and hail the fisherthems for bringing them in.
The staff:
Hungry to please. Attentive. Decent people.
The experience:
I ordered Bombay duck. Jumbo prawn (tandoori) and large crab in butter garlic sauce. Plus a naan.
The BD was simply fried white fish. Non of the complexity I was expecting. Have I missed something?
The jumbo prawn. A ridiculous prawn tail I suspect is more akin to a lobster tail than a real prawn. Anyway, it was overdone on the griddle by 60 seconds. It was fine.
The crab. Stunning.
The less than positives:
They want you in and out ASAP. noticeably so.
The staff are too attentive. To the point when it can feel a bit much, relax guys.
The cooking is good but it isn’t great. My prawn (1100 rs) was griddled but overdone. I don’t expect that.
The offer. I think Trishna is a good but not great restaurant, but is trading off its socials. Glad I went but think I’d look elsewhere. Must say the many punters looked very happy when I was there.More
