Simple but lovely

Don Francesco has a very simple menu primarily consisting of tagliatelli and ravioli or lasagna plus some salad and inexpensive but okay wines. The food is very fresh with herbs grown in their garden. They have a charming & romantic outdoor, back yard dining room. The food is nothing special but it's fresh and service is very attentive.

The tagliatelle carbonara were delicious!!! Almost as good as those of our half Italian grand ma. Nice terrace at the back. Service was relatively fast.

Great fresh pasta

Really exceptional pasta if you are a bit fed up with the local food. The lasagne are great, the pesto is really good tasting Nice place !

Very disappointing

After seeing good reviews of this restaurant I was really disappointed. If you like your pasta cooked even remotely al dente this is not for you. The shrimp tagliatelle I ordered had been cooked to within an inch of its life. Cute set up and friendly staff, but the food was a let down unfortunately.

Total disaster

We wanted to have a nice and easy dinner so stopped at this Italian restaurant in Olinda. What a mistake! The waitresses are not trained and don't have a clue how to treat a customer, one of them was particularly rude and rolled her eyes when we asked for butter to have with the bread basket that the had thrown on our table without even acknowledging our existence. When I asked for salt and pepper to try and save the absolutely tasteless ravioli, she made me feel like I was the most demanding person in the world. A catastrophic experience! The series of unpleasant vicissitudes continued as the night progressed, the starters took over 40 minutes to be served, the bruscheta cannot be called bruscheta, it's some kind of senseless creation, needless to say that any Italian cooking trainee would have done a better job in much less time. The bread was a horror show with no butter to disguise its sins. The penne arabiatta was tragic, they used the same horrible sauce from the bruscheta and it was just uneatable. They use garlic like there's no tomorrow so the pumpkins ravioli was a total fiasco. All the disastrous attempt to cook would have been easily forgiven if the waiting staff had any manners but that wasn't the case at all. They served bad food without a smile. So if you fancy been badly treated, embarrassed every time you need to ask for salt or pepper, if you enjoy seeing impolite people rolling their eyes at you, than this 'trattoria' in Olinda is the perfect place for self punishment.

Classic Italian food. 3 adults and one baby, very friendly and helpful staff, service was perfect and the food was excellent. Definitely going back for pasta!

Creep staff and really really average food

This place just got worse and worse. We were the only people there at 8pm for dinner, yet staff took ages to bring venues and then again to take the order. We had pasta ragu and the steak with gorgonzola which bizarrely came with a larger serving of ragu then the individual order. Merlot came cold with an ice bucket. Steak was definitely not a fillet but some very cheap cut.

Great italian in Olinda!

The restaurant is located in the old part of the city, with a nice atmosphere. The pasta is home-made, fresh and the flavour was good. Felt like i was in Italy. And the best, the prices were fair. Indeed, i will return.

An average, and not very Italian, meal.

This trattoria is currently overrated. The food was all right, but nothing to rave about and certainly not very Italian in anything other than name. They serve some not very good pasta with either a tomato or a bolognese sauce with (not before) your meat or main course. In fairness the meat was well cooked, but that is as far as it goes. It was overpriced for the quality of the meal and having eaten in three different places in Olinda you can do much better elsewhere.

Completly overpriced

The location is nice. The outside area was quite lovely. The waiter ony spole portugese but they had a menu in english. The food was quite expensive for brazil. The noodles i orderen were way to salty but when i complained the waiter did not understand the problem. There are far better options in olinda then this restaurant

Great food horrible service

The visit was tiresome. Expecting a quick meal here is pointless, it took nearly an hour to the food get to the waitress take my order, and with only 2 waitress for the whole restaurant they are overburdened. Even thought the food was great, really enjoined it all and I highly recommend to visit when the restaurant is empty. DO NOT come here during rush hours, unless you are really patient.

Massively disappointing

After a wait of an hour and a quarter we had to ask for some bread. They had forgotten our order. When it finally arrived the provolone ao forno was adequate but not special. The two tagliatelle dishes were disappointing - especially after the fuss that everything was homemade. I am sure it was but no better than fresh tagliatelle from Waitrose. Given how much excellent Italian food is available in Brazil, this meal was the worst I have eaten in the country.

Best Pasta!

My girlfriend and I came here on our last hours in Olinda before flying back to Rio. It was hard to decide what to order as everything sounded so good! The service was fast and pleasant! Mind you, it was a quiet Thursday afternoon with only four people in the restaurant. Also the waitress spoke English. We ordered the tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms tomato and fresh basil. Responsible priced for the portion you receive, either 1/2 or full portion. Was a great full flavoured well balanced pasta! Finished off with a good tiramisu. Recommend going for the pasta! Would like to visit again soon! Thanks you!

Lovely cozy little restaurant overlooking Olinda. Great hosts, warm and friendly. After 5 weeks of Brazilian food it was a nice change. Good salads and wonderful pastas.

Cold Lasagne, Frozen Tiramisu

I am not a chef, but I would assume when one side of the Lasagne is piping hot and the other side is cold, it might be a sign that is was not be prepared on the spot. I was then told, that they prepare all the Pasta's in the morning and they just heat it up in the oven when customers place an order. After, I sent it back, it turned up two minutes later stifling hot. Oven's don't turn cold pasta's hot in two minutes, to me it sounds like some microwave action was going on in that kitchen. Talking about microwaves, I am not sure how they defrost tiramisu, mine was a block of ice, when I mentioned that Tiramisu is not ice cream I was informed very confidently, that, they serve Tiramisu frozen, Always! An Italian restaurant, that can't serve a Lasagne or a Tiramisu correctly, is not an Italian restaurant worth visiting, despite the other glowing reviews.
