There are very few establishments which seem to overcome all the boundaries erected by modern travel to having an authentic wonderful culinary experience. Even fewer in number are places offering cuisine foreign to the country that they are operating in. People will always tell you that the best cooking is in the home country, or even that the ingredients cannot travel across the seas...the Irish say that Guinness is best sampled in Ireland, the French will swear that you can only truly appreciate fois gras when on French soil etc etc etc... At Salud a small dedicated team led by a wonderfully energetic (and wise beyond his years) chef from the tip of North Western Spain has managed to achieve the impossible. Despite all challenges they have succeeded in presenting a truly authentically Spanish experience ( with Gallego touches -where else can one see Felloas on a menu outside of Galicia?Answer: Inside Spain -only rarely, outside of Spain, Never! ) Unfortunately we could not manage to get as far as dessert.. maybe in the next lifetime. For our tapas we chose the extremely well balanced Ensaladilla (better than my mother in law), Coquettas filled with a sublime salmon mousse, the coating was cooked to perfection and finally a tortilla cooked right in front of us, now here perhaps one tiny personal matter: I prefer my tortilla a tiny bit more "runny" but that is how my wife's uncle literally throws it together, my wife on the other hand who is Spanish and knows about food thought it perfect. Sorry, I'm Irish. We had a bottle of Estrella 1906 Reserva beer which paired perfectly. We then ordered a bottle of the house red, very decently priced, but cautiously enquired as to whether it was ok? No need to worry, the wine is well stored, essential here where the temperature hardly ever descends to 20°. The chef assured us that although it was the house red it was a good wine and it was around then that we started to see his personal pride in everything under that fine timbered roof. Alongside the Garnacha-Syrah blend we enjoyed the Secreto Iberico (I was hoping to try the Paella but my wife overruled me and we chose the pork). This came with three sauces. Our bill was an extremely reasonable 70€. Similar in price to Spain..but.. and here is the whole point..the quality was higher at Salud and that despite it being on the other side of the world in a tropical climate. Bravo y mucho exito! D&W

Haven eaten rice, rice and more rice for past few days, finding this tapas place was just what we needed. Shared a few tapas with a fellow traveller from our hotel we met in the doorway to the restaurant. Great choice of food, lovely beer and wine to wash it all down and would highly recommend. The chef from Spain, cooked food authentically, waitress too was from Spain.

At the end of 3 weeks travelling around Malaysia it was time to have something different for dinner especially in a place that looked as attractive as Salud, I confess to being slightly put off by some negative comments but we were very impressed, so much so we went back for lunch on our last day. We travel extensively in Spain and have done over more than 25 years and eaten a lot of tapas during that time. The five tapas we chose for dinner were all top notch example of classic tapas, well cooked and presented and good quality. Yes the dishes are more expensive than local dishes but with the setting, presentation and some imported items what would you expect. We returned or lunch & shared a Huevos Rotos with top quality Jamon, comfort food before a long journey home. Thank you to Beorgan, hope the spelling is correct, & Maria for excellent food and hospitality.

For me, the food we ordered lacked flavour. The tapas & the paella were simply not delicious. And they should be. Or, if they aren’t dishes that the chef really loves cooking, delete them from the menu & focus on the less touristy Spanish cuisine alternatives that Maria (the charming Spanish manageress) told us was the chef’s forte. We felt that the prices were too high for what we received. I note many management rebuttals asserting that the cost is fair considering that the produce allegedly comes from Spain. But to be honest, I think the restaurant could source comparable quality & cheaper produce locally, and thereby reduce the prices a bit. Many of the Spanish cheeses I ordered are available in KL - and at a price that would still offer a good margin. So why import them? I also note restaurant comment that all the seafood is bought fresh, daily. Well I cannot agree that the seafood in my paella was fresh / the prawns were mushy & literally tasteless (as if defrosted). Good, fresh prawns are flavoursome & fabulous - they are what I want in my paella. Along with more garlic, some white wine, more seasoning (a pinch of chilli or chorizo) etc. SALUD’s recipe is unlike any paella I have eaten (or cooked myself) before. And it’s not as good. I hope the restaurant takes this point constructively & adjusts the recipe. Having debriefed Maria on the above points, she was professional & courteous, and offered us a complimentary dessert. So, Would I go back? Maybe. But having now read so many of the poor reviews, and seen some pretty unprofessional management responses...I think I’ll steer clear for a while to see if the restaurant attracts plenty of positive reviews over the next few weeks. If it does, I’ll take Maria up on her invitation to give SALUD a second chance.

My wife and I visited the restaurant on 26 Dec2021 for dinner around 6:30 pm. The person greeting me at the door inquired whether I had a reservation and I said "No, how could I?" and I showed him on my phone that I had dialed their number as listed on the web 6 times between 3:00-4:30 pm and always got a Call Back response. He then mentioned it was the owner's number who was now in Spain. Curious to use that as the only contact number in their Web listing. They were fully booked but we could sit at the bar which we accepted. The waiter plunked two dishes in front of us, but even after waiting did not bother to furnish place mats like I saw done for all other dishes already set. The personnel and atmosphere (we were the only ones in the restaurant at that time) just felt wrong and we decided to leave. But at the door another staff member inquired why. I told him this purportedly was a somewhat upscale restaurant, certainly not cheap, and that I felt slighted by not having place mats and just bad service. His excuse was they were fully booked, as if that is a reason. He never apologized for the inconvenience but his parting words when I left the restaurant were " We also don't want people like you here". That probably characterizes the level of this establishment. Nobody looked remotely Spanish rather I felt I was in a Pakistani/Bangladshi restaurant. I have no idea about their food and never will. For sure the staff I have seen has absolutely no class.

Everything was ok until at the end of the meal, I had shredded glass pieces in my mouth and bruised my tongue. Yes you read this right. I thought it was some sharp pieces of ice in my sangria as I was finishing my drink but when I spit it out I realized it was pieces of glass that resembles the glass straw I was drinking from so I checked the straw but no,my straw wasnt broken or cracked. The edges were smooth. I quickly notified the waiter n showed him the pieces and also showed him my straw was not broken in case he thought it was my fault for breaking the straw. Yes, I was annoyed but I did not raised my voice and I asked for the manager prescence as I sensed the waiter's english may not be the best and I thought in this kind of situation the manager should be alerted. He apologised said he would come back to me.i saw him walking to the reception/service area to discuss with the rest but after sometime no one came back to us. Nothing. Fine, we asked for the bill and the bill came with no discount and no apologies from the owner or the manager in sight. It was as though nohing happened and they expect a customer who just got hurt by a piece of glass in their drinks to walk out quietly. I seriously do not know what they expect from us. I demanded for the manager n yes I raised my voice (in case the owner wants to penalize me for raising my voice . Seriously what to do you expect when you treat your customer in this way?) I'm not going to deny it. Someone showed up but nope he wasn't the lady manager that served us. He was extremely defensive because the first sentence that he said was " this never happened in our restaurant before" what do you mean by that? Yes it is an accident and it happened. What is the point of saying it never happened? The action that you chose is the crucial factor in determining if you care about your customer. I was of course angry because it sort of Implied that I was at fault. I also said how can you expect me to pay for a drink with glass pieces inside and you guys showed no intention of compensating us. We are not trying to be cheap or taking advantage of a free meal. Even if food is horrible I will still pay for it but no I'm not going to pay for a drink which has glass pieces inside ! This is consumer right. He kept saying yes I'm here to say sorry and let's not make it a big deal. There you go guys, tell me if he is not being defensive. The only benefit of doubt I can give is he is not very wise with his choice of words. In the end they took out the price of th glass of sangria. But tbh, nothing they do will change anything as they had been given a chance. The fact that no one came back to apologise when the first feedback was given is already bad enough.an apology which came after a big fuss was made is too late and obviously not sincere. Who the hell in their sane mind doesnt apologise over having objects that bruise your customer's tongue??

29.12.2021 Reservation was made one week earlier but yesterday's visit to Salud doesn't excite us. We were not greeted friendly and the waiter did not seem happy to welcome us.😔 The restaurant was under-staffed. The waiter was prompt in clearing off the table. 🤔However, it was rather impolite for him to do so as we couldn't continue eating without cutlery. We still had unfinished dessert and later, it was being yanked off too. .😢 As for the food, the salad was being served after all the mains. The anchovies tapas was quite good but the paella and churros were rather disappointing. 😓We couldn't taste the saffron in the paella and the colour was nothing similar to it. The churros was slightly undercooked and the chocolate dipping was liquidy.. The pork skewers was over-salted. 😢Fortunately, the staff had accepted our complaint for the pork skewers and waived it off our bill.👍 It also took almost 10 minutes for the waiter to bring us the bill. After waiting for another 10 minutes, we went to the cashier to retrieve our credit card and made payment. My card was just left unattended on the counter. ☹️

What a treat, for a change of Melaka traditional excellent delicacy’s. Some friends recommended the best in town if you like authentic Spanish food prepared and cooked from the chopping board to your plate in front of you with Chef Breo talking about what he’s doing for you to enjoy his culinary expertise and the products imported directly from Spain, all paired with an array of wines and other stuffs to enjoy. The super host Maria who’s there to recommend your next dishes and drinks and make sure you’re confortable and Happy. A perfect evening right in the town center between shopping and night live. IL be back 👏👍🍷

We had some beers and tapas, the food was good but not exceptional. Price is on the high side, probably due to the fact that many ingredients are imported. If you’re after a European meal in Melaka this is the place to be, however there is better value for the money available in Melaka.

We had dinner comprising several tapas. Starting with two nice gazpachos (with a very subtle taste); gambas al ajillo; ensalada salud, falafel and the best was a freshly cut piece of salmon, transferred into a fantastic tartare (with avocado, lime dressing, oregano, parsley). The best meal we had for weeks. This place deserves at least 5 stars. Gracias!!!!!

Hopeless serving of orders. First order came quick. Then we waited 1hr for next order. Then they missed orders. Around 30mins later after we complained 1 of 3 order arrived. Waited again for Paella. Finally arrived after we told them we were done and leaving. Only it came with uncooked rice, very salty and lacking any kind of normal paella flavour. Seriously!!! They did waive the cost of the Paella but 700rm later and we needed to go someone else to eat as we are still hungry

Food was mediocre at best. For price and claims as a good Spanish restaurant, we are disappointed. Only the grilled Squid with mashed potatoes had fantastic taste. Sadly waiters were not friendly as reviews mentioned. Very robotic and not helpful at all. They look friendly only to westerners. The manager seems to visit only tables with Western guest. Felt discriminated.

We want to apologize for what we are reading from you. It was totally not our intention to make you feel that way. We always help everyone who needs our help. Our staff is well trained to answer all the questions you have at the time and also to suggest the best option for you. We are more focused on the locals than on the tourists, in fact, we are really focused on Malacca people, because they are more regular, anyway everyone is welcome to our places. The manager is always very friendly to everyone and is always ready to answer any of your questions with a big smile. If you understand that it is a busy day, all the staff is focused on doing the best work, faster and more efficiently than they can. Maybe you didn't ask us for anything, so we can't help you because we didn't know you need help. It maybe true that some tourists use to ask more than the Asians. Maybe that's why you felt that way. Our honestly apologies, totally it wasn't our intention. We hope to see you next time, let us know any questions, we will be happy to recommend our food so you can enjoy it, you will surely be happier and leave us with your full tummy. Thank you SALUD!!

A good and if I am not wrong the only Spanish restaurant in Melaka. My relations ordered a variety of food which was quickly devoured as we were hungry (therefore a lack of photos). We had paella as our main dish with ibico pork. The atmosphere was good. The salad was refreshing and we had a potatoes dish as well. We had churros for dessert. The service exceptional but mind you the food is not cheap.

Now you can tell people that Jonker Street is not about Street food or nyonya cuisine only. Order any pork dish and i am sure it wouldnt disappoint you. Tapas standard are average, not the best but they are good enough! We love their drinks menu with cocktail & wine variety.
