First i visited Vienna café in december 2015 for the brunch wich was wonderful. Today i was hoping for a same experience, but unfortunately everything has changed. The chinese waitresses are not interested in taking orders or cleaning up the tables, so the customers need to run to the cashier to give their orders. The brunch table would look good... More

This coffee shop is a hidden gem in a quiet tree-lined avenue in the old French Quarter of Shanghai. It has a mellow continental ambience. We thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday Brunch which was good value. Oh, and the coffee was great!

Found this little beauty from searching in here to my nearest location. Walked around 30 minutes, at first I thought wow. What have I done, but as soon as I entered I was pleasantly surprised and the food was outstanding. I will certainly visit here again. A must try for breakfast

I am not a huge fan of Austrian food but the sausage with potatoes was as delicious as I could expect. The real treat that makes this place outstanding is the cake. Beautiful selection worth a rerun visit. Along with the great coffee and the sun room, this is a gem

8 years ago, we came very often to the Café Vienna, sometimes for breakfast, lunch, Coffee, cake and the austrian newspapers. My husband Peter (also from Austria) had very nice talks with the owner, Peter!! So, when we went again today, we found that the restaurant is still exactly the same & the food still good!! All very Austrian, we... More

Lovely relaxed and very authentic cafe. I had the weekend special which was great (I can't spell it though). The whole place has been fitted out to make you feel you are in Austria or Germany. They have a film night on Saturdays (mostly German language films). The menu is full of your favourite German dishes and the deserts/cakes will... More

We used a taxi to find this delightful café, and we might never have found it walking. It is on a shady street in a pleasant neighborhood that could be anywhere in Europe. It is very small, and a few loud people made our ears ring after a while, but the food was definitely worth that inconvenience. Service was prompt... More

Tasted the Vienna Melange Coffee, but taste not the same as original in Vienna itself, did not try the food there.

The Cafe Vienna looks nice from the outside and is probably a neat place for expats looking for some real european atmo. The coffee was also quite good, the cake though really not at all worth talking about it..thats why my rating is just 3 stars.

It is a little european cafe hidden in the Former French Concession of Shanghai. The place is held by an Austrian man for more than 10 years. Great coffee and authentic cakes, really like in Vienna thanks to the Austrian cook and imported ingredients (Swiss baking chocolate, butter, flour, milk -- all imported). So if you search for a good... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
