While on holiday in China, on Wednesday 11th January we were taken to The Lost Heaven for dinner as it was our last evening in Shanghi. The setting is beautiful, the food is wonderful, and beautiful presented. The prices are on the higher side and the wine is pricey but as a special treat it was amazing.

I was surprised, given the number of great reviews and reputation, that it was so easy to get a reservation. When I arrived I discovered the reason: It is huge and filled with tour groups and party goers. Very noisy. Cannot see the reason why it is so dark, but that's not the reason I wouldn't return. It was the... More

Yunanese food is really a must for Chinese food lovers. Lost Heaven has a very good environment and the food is really good. Be careful, it can be a bit over price too. But overall it is very worth it

Managed to get a dinner reservation in this very popular restaurant (weekday!). Walking into the bar area, it feels like walking into a boudoir. Dark furniture and sparse lighting with red being the main color. We loved it! Our table was in the upstairs dining room again very sparse lighting with some diners may think was too sparse. We sampled... More

Lost Heaven features Yunan cuisine, done in a very modern setting but with all the traditional Yunan flavours preserved. Best to reserve a table before you head there! It can get crowded even on weekday evenings.

Very nice place and good food with competitive prices, but the place is really too dark .. sometimes is difficult to see what you have in the plate.. by the way is a place to return.

We arrived early and sat downstairs in a rather peculiar, yet lovely setting and enjoyed a few of the wide range of cocktails that they offer. Once taken upstairs we ordered plenty of dishes to share between 5 (which I definitely suggest), and were pleasantly surprised as to the quantity and quality that we received! I'm hearing that despite offering... More

Lost heaven serves good Chinese meals and the prices are OK. It's a little touristy and crowded in the evening - so better make a reservation. I personally prefer local street food but this restaurant is nice too. The rooftop bar serves good drinks and has a beautiful view over the city - must be really nice in summer.

Made a reservation for 20 odd people - had a majorly long table to ourselves. Food was amazing - had close to 8 of their recommended dishes (though i did not order) and they were cooked in styles that I never had before. Simply an explosion of flavours in your mouth! A convenient walk to the Bund area after dinner... More

I went here after reading the recommendations here on tripadvisor. As I am vegetarian, it is not always easy to make ppl to understand what i can eat and not in many restaurants in Shanghai. This was however no problem at Lost Heave, where me and my partner order in 6 different dishes the was al delicate, and i must... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
