One of my favourite places in Shanghai especially when I'm craving Western food. Everything is delicious, breakfast, lunch, dinner. I could eat here every day.

Cantina shut. Underwent a facelift and menu change under the same ownership and is now 'Tepito'. Drinks remain good, and the menu has (deliberately) strayed from the now ubiquitous TexMex available everywhere in Shanghai towards more innovative Mexican dishes, or at least innovative for the 2016 Shanghai circuit.

Expensive. Food is bellow average. I know Mexican food in Shanghai is not something you can be picky about but have tried a handful of different places within the city which that are 10 times better. Somewhere within the new "vibe" they were going for they forgot basic restaurant code. Good service, good food, reasonable prices: they had neither.

Amazing food and drinks specially the tequilla list. The salad bar is unique but very good too. It's usually bustling with foreigners. But I've heard it's closed down recently.

In my opinion, being from California, and being very critical of tacos and always on the quest for the perfect taco; there are better places in the city for Mexican. They do okay here. It's not Maya, but it will work for a quick eat. My favorite part about this place is the salsa bar. You can totally stock up... More

We ended up here after the rain started pouring down in Shanghai. We had intended to only stay for a drink. Well, it was a fabulous margarita and as such, we had another one. And then we were hungry and stayed for food. We had the beef nachos, with real pieces of beef as opposed to mince and some lovely... More

A must go to for people who are into Mexican food! Not to mention the huge list of Tequilas the restaurant has to offer!

Cantina Agave does not have good Mexican food. It has cheap, low quality Mexican food. That about sums up the place entirely.

Fabulous streetwise seating where you can enjoy a Paloma with your friends and watch Old Shanghai pass by. Try the Fish Tacos!

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
