I have been here twice now, both business lunches. It is around the corner from the large office block...The Centre....where many advertising agencies have their head offices. So it is handy for a quick and inexpensive lunch in private rooms. The food is OK, not great, but suitable for a quick lunch. They have the set lunch menue and it... More

Their lunch sets are reasonably priced. Some of our favourites are the kurobata pork with ginger and the sashimi and deep fried pork set, as well as their tofu with sukiyaki hotpot. The dishes feature good quality ingredients, though portions can be small. Each set comes with a salad with sesame sauce, a chawanmashi (though without gingko nut), a bowl... More

This is a popular Japanese restaurant which comes from Tokyo. Because even Japanese loves the taste (it means that this is an authentic and good Japanese quisine) and it is so crowded by many Japanese, Chinese, and sometimes American and European. The cost of dinner is high, but lunch is reasonable (less than about 80RMB a person). So, you have... More

I've been to this restaurant in Tokyo and this place in Shangahi has the same quality. This restaurant specializes in Kyushu dish, famous for poutry hot pot, seafood and shochu liquer. We ordered a new years party set with all you can drink for 358RMB/hd. Food was enough to fill us up and we were all drunk with shochu.

Went for a quick lunch meal at this nearby Japanese reataurent. The experience was fabulous. The service is authentic Japanese style and the setting for the restaurant interiors and exteriors is Japanese .You might feel transported to some Japanese town while you are here inside. The seating is private and large style. We choose a quiet round table Japanese style seating... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
