I ate in a small group here and everything we had was excellent. You do need to like spicy food though as there are plenty of spicy selections and some of it is very spicy indeed. Service is decent enough. There's a reasonable selection of...More

exactly what I was looking for: informal atmosphere, fresh ingredients, great cooking and moderate price. Service was also great despite the language barrier. Overall, my first experience in this place is very positive.

You need to like and be able to handle a bit of spice to enjoy this Yunan establishment. The food is really flavorful and hot, the Cumin Ribs are a must. We also ordered the vermicelli hotpot which was a standout as well. Incredibly affordable...More

Food is very good. Service is a bit slow, though not exceedingly so given the high volume of customers they serve. Did not require a reservation to get immediate seating at dinner time on a weeknight. Worth a go if you are in the area.

This place was bustling with both locals and tourists, a good sign. Menu had plenty of pictures and English translation. Service was attentive (noticed I was sweating with one of the spicier dishes and asked if I wanted an order of rice). Tried the ribs,...More

DSD remains on the top spot of Shanghai Hunan restaurants. Food standards remain high, but prices sure did go up a lot. Common theme in Shanghai though. The main staff remain the same since decades which ensures the standard.

Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly
governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French
Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that
is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While
it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will
sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their
mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area
seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet,
