Good value for the price you pay. I did like the atmosphere. Recommended if you are in Shanghai and you want to listen to some life music as well.

By some web-site, some nice comments would be found. But in my sense, this is just bar that provide local foods. No special dishes, I couldn't enjoy. Someone said there were Sushi counter. But I couldn't find it. There were some small room that quasi counter was located. The restaurant located on second floor in old fushioned building.

We had a quick dinner on a Monday afternoon/evening. The chessnut chicken was sublime and the autum special pork wonderfully tasty. Everything we ate and drank was both delicious in taste and elegant in presentation. The service was excellent. (We travel with 2 small children, and were pleased that this didn't but the staff off.) The dining room is also... More

Experiencing eating at Yin by Le Garçon Chinois will bring you the taste of the finest chinese food, or better saying a fusion of Western and Chinese sauce give the most beautiful taste. Try the fried Goat cheese.. It is superb!! Also "Cong Ban Mian". it is exquisite..

I don't usually care for Shanghainese food much. Yin combines Shanghai flavors with a touch of Sichuan and a wee bit of French/Japanese influence. The decor is great (really rare for a Chinese resto) and maybe attributable to the Japanese owners. Many dishes have a telltale sweet and thick sauce of Shanghainese cuisine, but it's all done far more subtly... More

Went there in the spring 2008 and had a wonderful dinner. I made a reservation on October 10 only to learn that the tapas section is closed.

Food was not I hoped for...I heard great reviews from friends so checked it out with high expectations. Was not really impressed. Quite difficult to find too. The old building gave its charm but interior looked a bit tired.

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
