We needed a restaurant for our "hangry" group, with a variety of dietary needs, including vegetarian, peanut allergy, and a super picky eater. This restaurant was absolutely perfect. The variety of the menu gave something for everyone. The waiter was very sensitive to our specific requests, and asked probing questions to make sure they got it right. The food was excellent, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Our server Danny, was just wonderful. We may go back again before we leave the area.

The chefs absolutely nailed it, and the service was impeccable. On top of the great service and food, the staff worked with complete synergy. Thewaiter and the busser handled the entire floor so gracefully, and when they got busy the chef came out and escoreted people to their tables and took orders. All in all, my girlfriend and I were very impressed.

We stopped here for lunch and the food was amazing! The ceviche was incredible, as was the wantan. Our son had the beef skewer, and my husband and I both had the fish (me) / fish & shellfish (him) in tomato sauce recommended by the waiter. So delicious!! We all agreed it was our favorite meal in Costa Rica all week. Highly recommend!

The chef is extremely energetic and engaging and loves his job. I ordered beef skewers and its the best meal I have had in months. We had a group of 13 and almost everyone loved what they ordered and raved about their sangrias they ordered. Definitely go if you go to Fortuna!

Worth the stop, nice change of pace and service that can’t be beat.
Tried once already to leave a review and got hung up in the submission but they were so gracious I’m trying again. Our waiter was a self-professed patron turned server with impeccable English, huge enthusiasm for the food, and full of great counsel. The wontons were delicious and fried rice was a real standout. Chef/owner came out to thank us for coming and express his gratitude for being able to serve our family. The attitude of service along with the food were huge standouts of our trip. Thank you.

My Wife and I were on our Honeymoon in La Fortuna looking for a special place to enjoy a change of pace from traditional Costa Rican food. We loved this place to much, that we decided to eat there two nights in a row.
The Ceviche is out of this world!! I highly recommend the Chinese/Peruvian take on ceviche, as well as the traditional versions.
Danny, our server, made our stay feel extra special. His bubbly energy, and expert food recommendations, made us feel at home at Chifa La Familia Feliz.
The Chef is Wonderful, and came out to personally to ask how things were going and how we liked the food. Now, I imagine this is not typical, because as the night went on, this place got BUSY!
Go early, or make a reservation. Hands down my favorite restaurant in La Fortuna.

We were super tired from the drive to La Fortuna and contemplated just eating at our rental. After reading the reviews for this restaurant, we rallied because is sounded like a wonderful spot. Our experience was awesome and we'd go back in a heartbeat.
Chifa is a fusion of Peruvian and Cantonese food that resulted from Chinese immigration into Peru. We had heard about it on a cooking/travel show and we're excited to have an opportunity to try it. That being said, the menu also includes more traditional Peruvian and Latin dishes. It's an extensive menu.
I can't remember the names of what we ate but the ceviche was amazing and we saw people come into the restaurant just to order more for takeout. The traditional potato balls that are topped with aromatics/shrimp/chicken we're unlike anything we had eaten before. The dish was more delicate and bright than other potato-based dishes we've had.
Finally, the beef tenderloin served with two traditional Peruvian sauces was unanimously loved at our table. It comes out sizzling and was an extremely well-balanced dish.
The restaurant is run a by a husband/wife team who are juggling multiple tasks. This isn't a good choice if you want to eat it and beat it. This kind of food and experience takes time and you need to be prepared to savor and enjoy it. Grab a Pisco Sour (excellently done) to sip while you wait.

My husband and I went here for dinner one night in April of 2021. The waiter that was working was by himself which may be why he seemed so disorganized and slow. He was very friendly and made suggestions on the menu however he brought the food out to each table piece meal and one thing I ordered never arrived. Overall we were there for 2 hours or more before we got the majority of our food and finally when we asked about my last thing learned it had not been put into the kitchen. the tables around us also appeared to have similar waits and issues receiving their food at different times. They also seemed to be out of several items on the menu. Even the pork for my fried rice was not available and had to be substituted for extra chicken. The food itself was very good but only go if you are prepared for a very leisurely meal. Also be aware that they only have water, fruit juice, and beer on the menu so do not go looking for wine or cocktails or even soda for the kids (as one upset customer beside us learned).

First up, go with your instinct when it says that Peruvian and Chinese sounds like an odd mix. We decided to ignore this instinct and give it a go for something different after three weeks in Central America. I don’t understand how this place has such good l reviews and how it comes recommended in lonely planet. Maybe you have to order the Peruvian food not the “Chinese” food (but in that case maybe just serve Peruvian food?). The stir fried noodles were not Chinese but in fact Italian store bought spaghetti with a sweet pineapple/Tamarind sauce and steamed vegetables. The wontons... I don’t know what they were or what to compare them to. Extremely sweet sauce again. The place was full when we left. It’s not cheap. The service was fine. Not sure what we were missing but would not recommend. This was by far the worst meal we had in Costa Rica.

Just had dinner here for my birthday treat with my boyfriend. Our server Danny recommenced a dish of fried corvina in a seafood sauce served with potatoes and veggies and it was out of this world! We also shared the fried rice with everything and an order of cashew chicken. Everything was delicious, unique flavors, with great service. Danny was very friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend!

Sad disappointment on New Years Eve. After having such an incredible experience only 18mos ago, we had high hopes and excitement to return to this restaurant. Arriving at 6:10pm on NYE, we had a fantastic waiter who informed us of new National restrictions for driving that began at 7pm. So rather than sit and eat, we decided to order food to go. This is the ONLY positive I have. Service was sadly disappointing as it took more than 45 minutes for our food to be prepared, despite only being one other table in the restaurant ordering food (the restaurant had to close at 7pm). Chef was ridiculously slow and food was a significant disappointment. I’d rate it mediocre at best. We ordered 2 appetizers and 4 entrees. The appetizers were cold as was one of the entrees by the time we received it. Two of the dishes were not at all what was described in the menu. If we had not been forced to order our food to go, I would have sent them back. They were inedible. I can’t express my disappointment and will not return on our next trip.

This place is very special. Our server Danny was amazing -- we got mostly things he recommended: fried seabass in fish sauce, beef tenderloin kabobs, and cashew chicken. All the food was fantastic. Danny found out it was my birthday and capped the night off with Pisco Sours he had made himself. This place is fun, unique, and delicious... can't recommend it highly enough!!

We ate here three times during our week in La Fortuna. Each dish is exquisitely prepared with fresh ingredients and unique flavors. Please note that if you are in a big hurry, this is not the place for you. If you are willing to be patient and enjoy the pura vida vibe, you will be treated to some of the most unique food that you have ever experienced. Peruvian and Asian fusion dishes that are to die for. We cannot wait to return here on our next visit. Thanks to the staff for your exemplary efforts.

This restaurant is a wonderful fusion of Peruvian and Asian flavors and styles. The vegetables are fresh and crisp and flavorful. I enjoyed our waiter who was especially attentive and helpful in selecting a vegetarian entree to our liking. The chef went as far as preparing a regular entree vegetarian style. I wish I had the forethought to photograph my plate when it arrived to the table because presentation was beautiful as well.

Coming from a big city with an huge food scene, it's often difficult to be impressed by food when traveling. But this place was excellent! They do not skimp on quality, quantity or flavors. The ambiance is also fun with bright paintings - the interior photos on Trip Advisor makes the place look stuffy, but that is definitely not the case.
I didn't have high expectations going to this place. How good could pan asian food be in Costa Rica? But I was so pleasantly surprised, and it was honestly a nice break from the same food choices you typically see in CR.
