The best part of our day trip was meeting Marilyn, the owner. This place is so upscale and inviting. Marilyn met us at the door, showed us around and was so great. We purchased our glacier tour tickets and then after the tour we returned because we wanted to see Marilyn again. We had fabulous clam chowder, war corn bread,... More

Stopped by on a raining afternoon after a Portage Glacier tour. Our bus driver recommended the clam chowder. He was right! It was very good. Sandwiches were good too. This is a small place with limited menu. But it is an out of the way place. Enjoyed it!

It was raining when we were at Portage Glacier so we decided to stop in for lunch while we waited for it to end. This cafe' is the only food service in the area. We were nervous at first because there was a tour bus in the parking lot and a group of people standing around the front door. We... More

Stopped for a quick lunch after going to the visitor's center and the wildlife park across the road. There is a limited selection but the place is nice, quiet, and clean. There is quite a large gift shop with upscale gifts. The cafe has cafeteria style serving. There are a few sandwiches and soups on the menu along with typical... More

After hiking to Byron Glacier, we were extremely hungry and planned to head back towards the main highway in search of food when I spontaneously followed a turn off sign indicating there was some sort of dining nearby. What we found was the Portage Glacier Lodge Cafeteria & Gifts. They had some ready-made and made-to-order sandwiches, soups and salads as... More

A quaint lodge with a nice buffet line and pleasant staff. Great souvenir and local crafts store with reasonable prices. Nice place to grab a bite to eat either before or after the Portage Glacier Cruise and do a bit of shopping.

Even if you are not headed to see Portage Glacier, you can stop in at the Portage Glacier Lodge, which no longer acts as a lodge, but still had a wonderful gift shop and amazingly good food prepared fresh in their kitchen, even though it's called a cafeteria. It is pre wrapped for ease of those rushing in and out.... More

We got off our motor coach to Anchorage and waited for Portage Glacier Tour to coach back from Anchorage. That gave us a couple of hours here that we would otherwise spent on a bus. The restaurant was fun. The food was good. The wait staff was talkative and competent. AND, they had hand-dipped ice cream. Very nice.

We stopped here after the portage glacier cruise for lunch and some souvenirs. The clam chowder is awesome! They have a nice little gift shop with some interesting local items. I Would definitely stop here if you do the cruise to grab a light waster proof jacket before or a cup of hot clam chowder after.

This is a nice place to stop for a quick bite or lunch after the hike to Byron glacier. The food choices are decent and if requested - the cold sandwiches can be made fresh and can be customized. The restroom facilities and restaurant are well maintained, and their coffee is pretty great too!
