We had a day in Ketchikan while on a cruise and needed somewhere to have lunch before going on a floatplane trip. We decided to give the Pioneer a try and were pleasantly surprised to find that we could have anything from the menu, even the breakfast items. We selected the blueberry pancakes and they were awesome. Really tasty and... More

Pioneer Cafe is a stereotypical American Diner. It's a bit odd to have a 'Route 66' kind of place in Alaska, but it works. I visited outside the tourist season. Despite being located in the touristy downtown area, Pioneer is open early year-round for locals. (Many restaurants close during fall and winter.) My potatoes and bacon were good, but fairly... We had blueberry pancakes, they were good and the portion was large. Popular with locals, food typical diner type, burgers, chick, meatloaf, etc. Service was excellent. Stopped for pie and coffee one night. Only place in town that we found pie. Would go back and would recommend.

Definitely a locals place and recommended to us by a local since all the other restaurants had closed for the night. Tourist friendly. Can't go wrong with burger and fries or grilled ham and cheese. Another morning we went back for breakfast. Pancakes are plate-sized. Good comfort food. Place could use some repairs and upgrades.

The food was good enough to eat with large portions and fairly quick preparations. Price was reasonable, especially for Alaska and Ketchikan with all the cruise ship hostages. Close to Creek Street and in the downtown area... appeared to be a quick walk from the harbor. I had breakfast... nothing fancy... just an omelet with hash browns and toast.

Huge taco salads...thick hamburgers...old fashioned malted milks all at very reasonable prices, served by good waiters. Where a lot of the locals eat and you'll see why ilf you visit, just a block from berth 1 and 2.

There aren't many restaurants in Ketchikan, Alaska but the Pioneer Cafe was very busy during a cool day in Alaska. It was lunch time but we were able to order breakfast. We enjoyed our visit and met some nice people who were cruising on another ship. We enjoyed our visit to Ketchikan, Alaska and the Pioneer Cafe.
