You can't have a more enjoyable Portuguese meal, this side of Johannesburg, but you need time to really appreciate it. Fill your glasses with a typical Portuguese wine and slowly enjoy your starters. If they are giblets, chicken liver or calamari or all of them together to share, you just cannot go wrong. By the time the main courses arrive,... More

Excellent food and atmosphere, I just love the Portugal food. So spicy and you can get the chicken as hot as you want. I just love my hot stuff.

We have been going to Geno's for a few years now. Today 2 of us had the Prawn/Kingklip/Mussel combo, the others had Kingklip and Chicken Livers (main). This is a family run restaurant and the food is really good.

My brother and I stumbled upon this restaurant. On arrival, we were greeted with a friendly welcome and although a modest set up, I could sense this was an authentic Portuguese restaurant. Sat down, ordered off the really concise but good menu selection. And we we presented with two fresh rolls and a dipping bowl of peri peri sauce. From... More

The food is always good. They are normally quiet friendly but last visit not so much but it might have just been the night. Lovely place to go.

It was a slooow Monday night. In a restaurant that has place for over 100 guests there were 8 tables and 20 guests. My first drink came quickly. 10 minutes later I received a small piece of butter and some peri peri sauce. After 15 minutes I finally caught the attention of my waiter and asked if I was getting... When you walk into Geno's you realize this is not a fancy place, with no great decor or good music, no paintings against the walls. Initially the service was also a bit slow, but things turned uo when the home made bread and peri peri sauce arrived! Our table shared a platter of mixed starters, and our mains varied from... More

I live in the USA and visit South Africa once a year. One of my highlights of my visit to South Africa is eating at Geno's. Their prawns are fresh and grilled to perfection. I have also yet to find a restaurant that can make chips like this place. Their food is packed with flavor and the staff very friendly.... More

This restaurant doesn't immediately attract one's attention from the outside, and it's not located in a great area, but if anyone recommends that you go, or if you're looking for great Portuguese food, do so. The food is really great, especially the trinchado. The peri peri sauce they serve with the bread is so more-ish I had to buy a... More

I have been looking for years for the best Mozambican prawns in Johannesburg. I am rather reticent to give this out as it might become too busy and well known! Their King prawns grilled with Peri-Peri on the side are succulent and as spicy as you might wish to make them. Their chicken is superb, and as for their chicken... More
