Great vibe for post dinner drinks for couples or a small group after eating on Long Street. The menu is unique - the "swim and tonic" comes in a plastic bag with a straw with fruits appearing like fish swimming around in your drink. Nice outdoor spaces with attentive staff and a cool mural painted in one of the outside... More

This was the final stop and watering hole of the night. So I can only comment on the drinks , service and vibe. All of which were great and I had the a fabulous time. Super friendly staff and people in and outside the bar. Great cocktail list and of course all the usual beers and wines. Bar staff particularly... More

A must do for anyone in the mother city. Great cocktails and music. A real insight into the city of Cape Town vice.

We were a group of friends sitting outside in what was a very quiet day. While our server was friendly they forgot three of our orders. After asking for them a second time we asked for the bill. Of the two platters we ordered only one arrived and after a good 40 minute wait, my old fashioned and my partner's... More

We ended up there around midnight after bar hopping. This is a great place. Great DJ, great service and good drinks. Has a great design vibe with a courtyard, and outdoor patio of course. Dont miss this place during your evening bar hops!

It’s toted as a speak-easy but doesn’t quite have that vibe given the electronic music thumping throughout the bar and a lack of a discreet exterior. However, the drinks were delicious and the bartenders knew their stuff.

recommended to us by a local restaurant manager, this place is worth the walk up Bree Street. It was packed so we could only find a seat outside but there were patio heaters! The choice of cocktails was very eclectic, with lots to choose from. Service was quite slow, possibly because we were sat outside, but we got there quite... More

All of the cocktails are quite creative- the gin and tonic comes in a plastic bag with a straw. Another drink came in a tea cup. I ordered the nachos libre that was a warm cocktail served in a glass bottle in a brown paper bag (with nachos on the side). The food was ok but the drinks and the... More

We visited as a large group and sampled most of the tapas and numerous cocktails. Everything was very good. The bar has a good atmosphere with a mixture of standing and seating areas. The service was fine but I think we had a new waiter which probably meant the service wasn't as smooth as it could have been.

Description
Orphanage takes its unconventional name from its location on Orphan Street, so named as the orphan children of Cape Town used to gather there in the early 1900’s. The low-key brown doorway with a key-shaped spy-hole is an ‘Alice through the looking glass’ entrance into a beautifully detailed, quirky cocktail club which opened rather unusually, with a blessing by the Archdeacon and a drink on the menu is dedicated to the present day Children’s Home that was founded as a result of his predecessors efforts. Harking back to the drinking dens of the early 1900’s; Orphanage offers an extraordinary theater of cocktail alchemy, an unpretentious, top-quality sharing food menu of which the star is the signature crayfish rolls & truffle chips & a remarkable and rich history from the vibrant Mother City. Expect a laid back vibe, DJ's spinning deep-house & dancing until 2am.
