We went there for a special occasion, knowing it was going to be expensive and touristy. The service was just terrible; a sweet but hapless waiter, who brought our starters (very expensive seafood platter) with our mains. When we sent the mains back the manager came and asked us to accept them "otherwise the waiter has to pay". Just want... More

We ate here twice - both for an evening meal and found table 39 the perfect place to enjoy a special moment - the table is on the lower terrace level and on its own so a great spot for an apero, lunch, fish supper or sundowner. The staff are friendly, particularly when you engage with them and service is... More

Visited for lunch. Food was good. Service was excellent. We were given a tour of the actual cave and told the history of the lady who once lived there. Well worth a visit to experience the unique location and history.

We just stopped over for a beer a few times after a long walk or swim as the sun went down. Very relaxed sitting on a rock at days end . The simple things is life are good.

10 years ago I visited this establishment and vowed never again. Being a semi resident of Hermanus I was dubious when our visiting friends wanted to end their holiday by taking us to dinner at Bietangs. Never the less, I agreed thinking that things had to be better than my previous visit 10 years ago. We arrived and were seated... More

We were waiting for a table. We piled up as requested. We saw a table coming available, and we attended the waiter on that. For somehow reason, we didn't get the table (we were first in line), but us was told that we could order a drink and wait 'there', waiting while standing in the full hot sun. It seems... More

Situated on the rocks. Spectacular views. Very good wine selection. Service was impeccable and the food great. Atmosphere very relaxed. Advice to book in advance. We would definitely go back and a must do in Hermanus.

Not at or near the sea, BUT almost IN the sea !!!! Unbeleivable location !! You can feel the spray of the waves, and you are on the rocks, at the sea !!! You feel so relaxed and can't stop looking at the sea, a few metres away. The food - average. The service - always slow and not up... More

This International award winning destination venue is the most unique restaurant setting in the world. Created out of an authentic, cave previously inhabited by a Koi Strandloper of the same name, the restaurant spills out onto the oceans rocks of Walker Bay in Hermanus, where Whale Watching is the preferred local pass-time. The rustic charm and natural ambiance of the cave and it's surroundings is a delight to all our patrons with many returning year after year to sample the delights of Bientang's Cave. With an abundance of sea and bird life as well as Dassies for company, this exquisite setting is heightened by the freshest seafood and an award winning wine list (Diners Club Diamond Award 2010 to 2013).And, should you be a non-seafood(ie), we offer meat, poultry and vegetarian dishes to satisfy any palate. We are also able to accommodate food allergies and special dietary requirements if pre-informed.Reservations are always advised as our location, quality of food and ambiance attract visitors from across the globe throughout the year...
