Ile de Pain is something of a local institution for all those looking for good coffee and bakes. We stopped in for breakfast and coffee - both very good. I was hard-pushed not to purchase a load of pastries - they looked superb. Service is always good. Always worth stopping by.

The food is delicious and the setting perfect save for a sea view. Definitely the place to stop for a light meal or coffee and in the heart of the village.

Very popular for breakfasts, coffee and pastries – be prepared to wait for a table. The service was very friendly and efficient, while the kitchen was remarkably efficient and quick. A good variety of breakfasts are available and the pastries looked very tempting.

Both a bakery and eat-in café, Île de Pain (island of bread) bakes the most exquisite pastries and bread. It took a lot of willpower not to indulge in the pastries, but we picked up a couple of tasty sandwiches and a squash salad which made a perfect picnic lunch that we enjoyed on the dunes of Buffalo Bay after... Enjoy eating here, all is good just really pricey. Service and setting all good, I can only mark them down on value for money.

We visited Ile de Pain twice during our recent stay in Knysna (both times for breakfast). We had to queue on both occasions, but not for very long. The food is delicious, and the service good. The lunch menu also looks delicious - we will have to try that next time!

Stopped by to pick up a pain au chocolate, fresh bread and a cappuccino on my way out of Knysna. Probably the best croissants in South Africa as they're normally too thick - Ile de Pain's are light and crispy like France. Great selection of confectionery on offer and super fresh, right out of the bakery. Love this place.

We were staying at the Lofts Boutique hotel and had a breakfast voucher for Ile de pain. I had a croissant, smoothie and a tea and my boyfriend, tea, wheat grass shot, egg Florentine / Benedict fusion with creamy mushroom and a basket of bread. The bread basket was value for money - you could taste about 5 different types... More

Enjoyed an excellent breakfast here in Knysna on the island and enjoyed the very cute cafe Ile de Pain. They also have takeaway bakery items which are delicious.

I love our "to-go" sandwiches, salads, smoothies and pastries - awesome to enjoy on a picnic at one of Knysna's many beautiful outdoor spots (although I'll admit I sometimes just can't wait and enjoy them in the car on the way there!). More

The food here has always been excellent however since the fire the portions have got a lot smaller and the prices have been hiked by 20%. Unfortunately no longer the top breakfast spot in Knysna. Service is good and the staff are a joy as well as the excellent presentation.

We use fabulous, fresh ingredients so our dishes are nutrient dense and super-rich in flavour, therefore a little less (to look at) goes a longer way (to satisfy). Thanks for your visit and for highlighting the service quality of our wonderful team. More

We are ile de pain 2.0, a team of authentic artisans and devoted individuals; foodies, fundis, artists, professionals and dreamers, all waiting to welcome you to our magical cafe. We are committed to honest food and superlative service, upholding heritage and embracing evolution, supporting traditional farmers and local suppliers, developing people and creating community.

Our cafe dishes offer a superlative level of honest sophistication in flavour and creative visual presentation. Each dish is lovingly and mindfully prepared using simple, fresh and beautiful ingredients that we hand select. We bake bread - good, honest bread that tastes the way it ought to. Our patisserie creates rustic yet refined desserts that offer a balance of delicate and decadent. We cultivate relationships with valued local growers who produce in small quantities and are entirely devoted to their land and craft.

ile de pain is a place to gather, making friends of strangers. We find our guests respond to the energy of the cafe, and in turn fill it with life, adding to the unique experience that it is. Our new light and airy, open-plan layout encourages patrons to witness our team at work and understand the way in which we lovingly prepare “real” food.
