Couldn't have been more pleased with where we chose to part with appx.$38 (U.S.w/tip) for a lovely dinner very near Via Arriba (the most home-y lodging we've found in a big city). Jim had a scrummy rib-eye cut steak w\small salad on the side, I had a beautiful two-sauce single dish lasagna that was pure Italian delight. We shared a... More

An interesting restaurant which we attended several times during our stay. Serves mainly pizza type meals, but other options are available. There is a history at this location which was formally a major billiard salon which hosted international matches, and the lower floor (downstairs from ground level) you can see many tables still in use for the local billiard lovers... Feels like an authentic Argentinian restaurant, oriented to the local crowd rather than tourists (although they did have a menu in English). Nice atmosphere, good service and tasty dishes. The dinners are well priced and good value for your money.

Nice, nice and nice! Service is a bit slow but it is an ideal place to chill or rest after a big walk to have a coffee or a slice of cake. Pizza is good too. It is a beautiful, historical and typical caffetteria of Buenos Aires. At night you can find good shows and concerts too. You can see... More

The food is really good, pastry as well. Nothing fancy but it seems to be a very traditional place that has adapted to receiving many tourists - there are menus in english and portuguese as well. Overall very nice experience and friendly staff!

This is a two-story facility: the ground floor is a very good restaurant offering moderately priced Argentine meals while the downstairs is a traditional pool hall where the best players in the city challenge each other in mano to mano billiards duels. They've been around since 1894, so they must be doing something right! If you can, get a table... More

After sitting un-acknowledged for five minutes (and failing to take this as a sign), I went to the bar and asked for English menus. While both were clearly marked English on the cover, mine was in Spanish. Eventually we got a waitress's attention and ordered. The food was served quickly. The Malbec was delightful and the salad greens were fresh... More

Staying in Montserrat

Neighbourhood Profile
Montserrat
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighbourhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
