The El Federal is at the high end of steak restaurants. It is tastefully decorated with a sophisticated ambience. The price, as one would expect is higher than other steak eateries. The quality of steaks are very good but do not represent good value compared to "lesser" establishments. The wine list is excellent with a good selection of quality Argentinian... More

Finally stopped in after peeking in the windows several times....turned out to be a lovely surprise...local restaurant with good food prepared by a young female chef, nice wine list, attentive waiters...even a communal table for those who wish it. We had the Patagonian lamb...cooked slowly for 7 hours...yummmmm with a lovely Malbec. I had the chicken, arugula and quinoa salad... More

Four of us stopped in for some empanadas, which were fine, and expensive ($12 each) salad specials, which were pretty awful. Tasteless and uninspiring to begin with, a good number of the leaves were a slimy mess (possibly related: one member of our party ended up vomiting the next day.) Those of us who did not get sick stopped eating.... More

El federal, at just a short walk from Puerto Madero, proved to be a great choice! The menu of chef Gabrielle was very nice. 4 courses, nice wines and a great service for a very sharp price. We will be back.

This was, for sure, one of the best places we had lunch in BA. The service is very very good, specially considering the dreadful treatment you usually get in Argentina. The price is reasonable and totally worth it. We tried the Patagonian lamb, it was amazing!! There is a very beautiful church very near, so it's worth the visit to... More

I first visited this place in 2015 and thought it was fantastic. Left an lasting impression, the atmosphere is great inside with a rustic look. The service is exceptional and if you need help, the servers tend to speak English. The food is fantastic, last time I visited I had some lamb empanadas and Patagonia Mia (braised lamb), both were... Must husband eats here every trip to BA so I had to try it with him. I was not disappointed and I am sooo picky. Very good food, dirt cheap. Our waiter was excellent. We don't speak Spanish so he tried to speak English and we had a great time ordering and eating and ordering some more. Delightful meal. Highly... More

I love this they introduce dishes from different part of Argentina here! Great presentation, good service, very interesting menu - I ordered a main course of fish with a dash of ice cream! Also they have an option of sharing a main course with extra side dishes, very flexible! I love their tea collection! Created by one of the top... More

There were so many missteps in our experience at El Federal this could be a very long review, so I'll mention the most egregious here. Walked in at about 7-7:30 to an empty restaurant. The manager (Owner?) vaguely pointed to a section of tables where we sat ourselves. We ordered a bottle of wine from the list, they didn't have... More

Staying in Retiro

Neighbourhood Profile
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighbourhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
