For an authentic dining experience in Enna, find your way into the grotto that is home to this tiny, two room, restaurant. As we descended, we found Guiseppe cleaning a large pile of greens on the main table. We had no idea where we were, but he got up and invited us into the second dining room. He then had... More

Filippo, who showed us round the castle of Enna, had recommended this trattoria but said it was inconvenient for access by car. Looking for somewhere else in our car, we found ourselves driving once more through Enna's one way system when my wife said 'Look, the Grotta azzurra'. On a busy corner. I left her there and parked some 200... More

Excellent home cooked Sicillian food. Lovely little gem in the heart of Enna. We had a lovely time with our little daughter eating great food and enjoying wonderful hospitality from the briljant and warm chef. As for one of the other reviews on here: if you pay €18 for a meal for 2 and feel ripped off you should definitely... More

We visited on a Sunday night. Access is down an alley, then steps down into the restaurant, white washed with two rooms and a hatch to the kitchen. We were called immediately to the hatch to be shown the pasta dish of the day. A baked dish with sardines, capers, peas and tomatoes. The homemade red wine and a bottle... More

This tiny, family-run place down an alley in Enna is about as authentic as it gets. We arrived quite late for lunch, and Giuseppe and Maria (who we understand have been in charge here for five decades!) suggested a menu for us which Giuseppe proceeded to prepare in the little kitchen. The freshest ingredients, a real Sicilian meal made with... More

If you expect to eat in a luxury restaurant, well this is not definitely the right choice. But if you just want to have a taste of real, authentic Sicilian food, then you MUST go to Grotta Azzurra. One of the best "arancino" ever, trippa and omelettes are also great. All accompanied by the home-made wine (you will be drunk... More

Giuseppe Umbriaco and his wife have run this little gem for over 50 years together. They are about as sweet a couple as you will ever find in your travels. We arrived just as Giuseppe was opening the door and the look of welcome on his face was so inviting we were instantly charmed. We sat down and Giuseppe began... More

Very sweet Italian couple who run this tiny restaurant. Nice food and very affordable! Liked the homemade wine a lot!! If you like something different than the big fancy places, definately come here, you'll love it!

Very good value. This is a local venue so you might have to "wing it" if you don't speak Italian but the lady running the place was very friendly and patient with us.

We'd been looking for a place to eat for a good 30 minutes. As February is definitely out of season for Sicily we were having a hard time finding a place that was both friendly-looking and not horribly expensive, when we chanced on this little gem. On first glance we weren't so sure about it - Grotto Azzura is very,... More
