Confeiteria da Ponte, conveniently located at the end of the Ponte de São Gonçalo bridge is a quaint, affordable pastry shop offering a great selection of local pasteries of which the main ingredient is egg and almond.
Indoor and outdoor seating is available. We sat outside on the terrace with a view of the bridge and river. Umbrellas are available to shelter from the sun, yet still enjoy the breeze.
We enjoyed our time on the terrace sampling our pasteries and drinking coffee.
It's a cozy and relaxing atmosphere and the perfect stop after lunch.

We had an hour’s stopover in Amarante, so chose to while away the time with tea and sweet treats by the river. What a great cafe to choose!
The staff were very patient with us inept Brits who didn’t know what things were or how the cafe worked, despite it being pretty busy. Thank you!
We went for the local egg yolk and sugar based sweet treats to share: a great choice, as so different from anything we would get at home and good too. They also do a good cup of tea!

An excellent place to stop for coffee and try the local pastries. These traditional pastries were delicious and pretty, sweet and egg-based. Dine outdoors and you get an excellent view of the bridge and the church. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, we enjoyed our brief stop.

Nice place to take coffee and taste traditional Portuguese sweets. For foreigners it could feel a little bit strange, as in northern counties it is common that you need to wait for your order, take and sit. However, here you can sit and relax while drinking a cup of coffee with a nice view.

Stopping here on our way to a Douro Valley tour was an unexpected and wonderful bonus. Just what we needed to get our day started but there were so many options that we couldn't decide. When you can't decide - what do you do? In our case the decision is to get 4 items for two people of course. We both had our favorites but there was absolutely nothing that we were not exceedingly happy to eat. Quaint and friendly, seated on the riverside, this is a must stop if you are in the area. Oh, and it just so happens there is a beautiful historic bridge and church just outside the front door

We loved the cakes, especially the papos de anjo. We tried the same cake in a different place, and this was clearly better. Service was great, we were served quickly and the patio had a beautiful view of the river. We took our dog with us and they allowed us to take her on the patio.

The sugar filo pastry, egg filo and cappuccino were delicious. We ate inside the cafe which has a nice view of the river. Would go again!

a very beautiful place, cozy and with fair prices, the service was also very good considering that the house was full, we didn't like the sweets very much, but it's still worth going to see them and try them.

The Confeitaria da Ponte has the absolute prime location in Amarante with wonderful bridge and cathedral views. Good coffee is served along with all the local specialty pastries which are super tasty but definitely heavy on the sugar.

Lovely fresh Portuguese sweets and a very pleasant terrace with a view of the river. I had my dog with me when I visited and was glad that they let me sit in the terrace with her.

I was with people who spoke Portuguese to ask for the local specialties that were excellent. One of my favorites though was the chocolate cone shaped pastry that was a deep ginger-chocolate cake inside. With coffee or a “pingo” all made a great late morning treat with a beautiful view of the river.

The property is in a niche just under the bridge and has a nice view to the river
It is well known within the country and abroad for its pastries made on old recipes based on a lot of eggs, sugar , cinnamon
So expect scrumptious perceptions combined with high carbs content
The service is subpar

With an an enormous variety of Portuguese pastries, everything deliciously prepared, it's really difficult to choose. Even more difficult when the staff does not help you at all. I think they know their pastries are great, so they don't care...

The typical egg sweets are really good!
The view is also very nice, so make sure to try 2 or 3 while you're there :)

We stopped at this cute bakery for late morning snacks. The seating on the terrace overlooking the river, bridge and church was very nice. Everything we ordered was very delicious: conventuais (flaky light pastry), bolo de Feijao (tart with soft sweet cake-like filling), toucinho do Ceu (I think it was pumpkin and egg yolk bar) and fatias de Acucar (cake with icing glaze). Highly recommend this place.
