Sometimes eating at the 'Vic' is a bit like watching France play rugby - you really don't know whether the A team are going to turn up on the day. We've been here before with mixed results but this was an A team performance. Frankly, this was our best meal of the holiday - we go because the 13-year-old is... More

Great views if you ask for a window seat. Food was extremely good, if a little expensive for a lunch menu - I think it may be the same as the evening menu. Service was friendly and quick.

Had lunch here, lobster and venison casserole. Food was superb. It was lovely to see all the dogs in there and we were welcomed even in our welies. This is the second time we've eaten here and not disappointed either time. We walked from Wells next the Sea along the beach to the Victoria then returned through the pinewoods. A... More

We have eaten here a few times over the past few years, and it has been lovely. However, today's visit was truly terrible. We ordered roast beef. Lots of information on the menu about the beef being reared on the estate etc, lovely - we were looking forward to it. Our meals arrived... in soup bowls. This is done to... More

As a regular customer I have noticed the standards here really drop over the last year. A few friends and I went in for coffee this weekend and I have never felt like such an 'inconvenience' for arriving and asking for a coffee. We were told all tables were booked - even though no one ever turned up. We were... More

I’ve had a few enjoyable visits here in the past but, having recently dropped in for a spot of lunch, I would not be in a hurry to return. The menu sounds impressive with all the blurb about quality ingredients, with meat and game from the estate. However, our food was, at best, only mediocre and it wasn't cheap either.... More

Lovely setting and views, welcoming inside, we came for lunch, planning a long leisurely one... it was not to be! Menu on the back of paper table 'mat', sounded good. On the front all the blurb about where the local fresh produce comes from which sounded good including that you could ask the staff more about each dish/ food origin... More

I grew up with the 'Holk Vic' and had my wedding reception there in 1982 so I've seen some changes over the years but it remains a favourite. It just has that ambience of old money, class and local history that new money can never compete with. The views are spectacular; no 'Chelsea-on-Sea' pretentious atmosphere and setting but the Real... More

Always a lovely menu if you want to eat, friendly staff and atmosphere if you just want a refreshing drink after visiting the beach, beautiful rooms with lovely little finishing touches if you choose to stay the night.

Description
Standing at the gateway to Holkham and the National Nature Reserve, the Victoria is a classic English inn owned by the Coke family and managed by the Holkham estate. There are ten elegant bedrooms, the bar and dining rooms offer a relaxed blend of style and comfort. The “Vic” serves delicious locally sourced food, much of it grown and raised on the estate with a bold emphasis on freshness, simplicity and value. Holkham has been a leading agricultural estate since the 1800’s when Thomas William Coke bought the site and the young Queen Victoria elevated him to the peerage in recognition of his contribution to farming in 1837. The name of the proposed new inn must have been inevitable when it opened its doors in 1838. The Victoria re-opened in Spring 2013 following extensive refurbishment.
