We travelled to Harwich by the foot ferry. We decided beforehand to eat at The Alma, we certainly were not dissappointed. Our pre booked table was set. Our food was well cooked and our drinks were perfect - Adnams at its best. A great atmosphere and a great team providing a great experience. Definitely will be back!!!

This is a quaint ancient pub with lots of character, rooms and changes of level We ate here on a Sunday evening. Some of the group had Sunday dinner and reported it to be good. Those who chose the fish said it was excellent. The menu was quite extensive including lobster and steak, although the choice of desserts was slimer.... More

Had a fantastic meal here. My Dover sole was excellent and my fellow diners were very impressed with their meals. The Alma is not the cheapest but it's the old adage of you get what you pay for, if you like cheap microwaved mush then go to weatherspoons but, if you like quality food cooked to perfection then dine here,... We only come here once a year, usually before setting sail on our holiday. A friendly pub with excellent food. The staff are friendly and the service good. High quality food with a big enough selection to satisfy anyone.

Whilst walking through the narrow streets near the Pier we saw the Alma Inn and decided it was a good time for a drink. The landlord welcomed us and allowed us to bring the dog inside the pub. The lady serving food came over and made a fuss of the dog and then said she'd go and wash her hands... More

We stayed at the Alma whilst visiting family and it was truly excellent. The room was fantastic - beautifully furnished with a large and comfy bed and a great bathroom. I've never slept so well. Dinner and breakfast were superb. Excellent quality, brilliantly cooked and presented. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. We well definitely be... More

Booked The Alma entirely randomly for a one night stay as a mothers day treat for me and as a base to surprise my own mother who was staying in nearby Dovercourt. My partner and I wanted to avoid the hotel 'chains' which can sometimes be devoid of individuality and character and try somewhere different. We booked The Alma due... More

This pub was picked for the many real ales it had on offer, always a good selling point to the other half. The meal was excellent too. Alot of the menu is steak and lobster sold by weight, and in case of the beef, cut. But we had to be different, as we were by the sea we felt we... More

As visitors from North America--who can be a bit sceptical at the best of times about British food and accommodation--we were proved wrong and wrong again by the Alma Inn and its host Nick. The food is fantastic, the people are unbelievably friendly and the bedrooms are beautiful. And, if you're an American who wants to learn the true story... More
