A perfect country pub. We visited on a recommendation and after a long dog walk we were looking forward to a good lunch and certainly we not disappointed. They had a good selection of real ales to be enjoyed in from of one of the log fires. There was a very tempting selection of food and both our starters and... More

This really is one of the best pubs in The Yorkshire Dales and over the last forty years we've been to most of them. It is a gastropub without being at all pretentious-you could stand at the bar and just have a pint without feeling uncomfortable, but then you would miss out on the wonderful food-the lunchtime set menu is one... Firstly, I know you will be reading some excelent reviews for this establishment which im sure they have clearly earned. I have to say the food was good and in no way are we complaining about this aspect what so ever. But the rest of the experience was a disaster from the start. We booked a table some time ago... The Blue Lion overlooks a picturesque little green. There are several walks from here of between 2 and 9 miles. Coaster fake walk takes you up the hills which whilst strenuous (as advised) does offer stunning views. The rooms are nicely decorated and clean staff are accommodating to needs including letting us dry our boots off in the boiler room.... More

Real old world charm, wooden floors, Edwardian feel, real old country pub with no "fake factor". Log fire, wooden pews, dogs in abundance. If you want minimalist style then don't come. If you want real character and a good Yorkshire experience then give this a try. Dogs allowed in rooms, very much a shooting pub.

Lovely food adequate portions dogs allowed which is great to be able to eat after a walk and not to leave the dogs in the car. The pub has lovely character.

Arrived on a busy Sunday late afternoon, seated straight away. The service was first class even though they were busy and the food was beautiful. Will be returning. Thanks

Ate here on a Saturday night, booked in advance as we had two dogs with us staying in Middleham about 5 mins down the road. No problem to bring the dogs into bar which was great. Menu had lots of variety including grouse and partridge Onion tart to start was very tasty and nicely presented. One lamb duo and one... More

We had visited two Michelin Star restaurants the prior week and we thought WOW - The Blue Lion is close to these in terms of the food, service, setting and overall experience. We had a fantastic meal, simple, fresh and subtle in terms of herbs. Good wine selection available and great desserts. Additionally, it is a restaurant where they know... More
