Tried it on a whim. Turned out to be a great pick. Fast. Fresh. Friendly. Juicy. Tasty. Hit the spot. Great $4 burger. We'll be back for more.

This is the classic low-price burger joint, the kind that has almost completely been elbowed out by the big franchises with their boring food. The burger is a thin patty that has been flame grilled (and real flames do fly) on a bun toasted on the grill. I like to pay a little extra and get all of the added... More
I ordered the burger and was asked if I wanted everything on it, I said yes. What wasn't made apparent to me when I ordered was that this included other stuff which wasn't written on the board. I believe they charged extra for this. I wanted everything that was written on the description of my burger not a load of... More
The Smokehouse has been at this location fifty (50!) years or more. Although the owners and cooks have no doubt changed over time, they still continue to serve real char-broiled hamburgers, not cooked on a griddle like most everyone else-- and it shows in the taste. So, if you want an idea of what hamburgers were like before the advent... More
I've been coming to the Smokehouse since it opened at the corner of Woolsey and Telegraph, right over the Berkeley line, in 1951. There's really no indoor area here, just two seating areas with tables, one glassed-in, and benches in the ordering area. I recommend the double cheeseburger for a smoky-good treat. They seem to have cut down on the... More
Old-fashioned hamburger/hot dog joint that's been in the neighborhood for ages. Nothing fancy here. I got the hamburger and my husband got the chili cheeseburger, and both were very good. Food is made after the order is placed, so it's not as fast as a McDonalds - but it tastes much better! There are a few tables both inside and... More
Wikipedia defines smokehouse as follows: "A smokehouse is a building where meat or fish is cured with smoke. The finished product might be stored in the building, sometimes for a year or more." I define this Smokehouse as an XLNT vibe with perfectly grilled hot dogs and the double cheese burger is finger licking good; totally enjoy messy burgers! I... More
They ask if you want everything on burger when it is extra and they are very misleading... Use to be one of my favorite places to eat, never again will I spend money there.. Language barrier seemed to be a problem or the rude worker is mental challenged... Go just a couple more blocks towards Berkeley and find a real... More
We did not get what we ordered, rude woman forced us to pay extra, we did NOT order the deluxe, she argued with me to the point of disgust. She barely understood English, she should not be working there. When they refired of my burger they literally took the onions off (NOT ALL) and gave me same burger, talk about... More
