We decided to try the Aubergine at Carmel for a celebration dinner. The sommelier was very helpful and picked a couple of great wines. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The 8 course tasting was thoughtful and well prepared, and the presentation amazing. I enjoyed the edamame and the deserts in particular. Pricey, but worth the trip.

We have been coming here for years and I've never been disappointed. It's a tiny place in L'Auberge Carmel, which we also love staying). You have to be adventurous as you may try new things, but everything is absolutely delicious, always.

We generally enjoy tasting menus and have enjoyed many great ones regardless of price. This one however was a complete disappointment. Course after course after course the preparations were creative but mediocre tasting only saved by the tiny size of each portion. The beef one was especially laughable. I first thought the two pieces were some kind of local bean.... More

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. They try, they really do try, bu somehow manages to miss the mark. Service is attentive, but sometimes forced and exaggerated. The chef mixes local ingredients to create something memorable and innovative, but some of the dishes got lost in translation. There are so many layers of service where a request for a... More

This is one of the oddest reviews I think I have done. It definitely was not "my type" of restaurant. There must have been 8-10 courses and a forkful on each. Too much activity coming and going for a relaxing evening. I've never used 8-10 forks for one meal. It's definitely for a "foodie" with dollars.... our meal for two... More

I booked this restaurant for a special occasion which fell whilst we were visiting Carmel. We enjoy a tasting menu, feeling that it gives the chef an opportunity to show off their skills and is often, as such, an entertainment. This was not! As we walked from our hotel to the restaurant, we saw many busy places full of happy... More

What justifies spending $750 on dinner for two? The food and wine, ambiance and incredible service. Aubergine missed the mark. The food was good, especially the seafood and vegetable dishes. We felt that the meat courses (chicken and rib eye were not up to the same standard. We had the sommelier wine pairing and there was nothing memorable. The service... More

A very quaint and darling hotel. I imagine what a hotel in a small town of Europe would look like. The staff was so gracious and accommodating. Absolutely a must and I will be back. It was one of the best 2, days I have had in a long time. My husband and I thruly enjoyed ourselves.

Just wonderful from start to finish. We opted for the Reserve Wine Pairings (French) and were not disappointed. Seamless service. Everything explained with each course as to why each wine was paired with each particular course. Kumomoto oysters were a nice surprise..which I could have had about a dozen more! We were there for my birthday celebration and couldn't have... More

My wife and I have had two dinners at Aubergine. We suggest that it is by far the most superior restaurant not only in Carmel, but in the Monterey bay area. Aubergine is intimate, seating possibly 20. The menu is fixed for the evening (though there are alternatives in the courses offered). Similar to other very outstanding restaurants, you are... More
