You know when you are in a great Japanese restaurant when most of the diners are Japanese. This place is hard to find (no english sign) but well worth the hunt. The chef is amazing and offers a chef's choice which I almost always order. Highest quality sushi and sashimi in the region.

This is a tiny restaurant which only opens a few hours each day, 11.30 - 13.00 and then 17.30 - 20.00. If you are lucky enough to get in then the food is very very good. Just one guy cooking, probably the owner who seems to have found his place in life.

Very authentic sushi place! You must have sushi here. The sashimi is so fresh and the sushi rice has the right taste and texture. Despite the lack of smiles, the service was efficient and made us feel comfortable enough. Go early to ensure you get a seat.

Warning! Once you go to Akaoni, you'll be spoiled for other sushi places. This is a tiny establishment with old-school sushi. Few rolls, no "sushi for beginners", just excellent sushi the way it is is Japan. The owner/chef is one of the few to be licensed by the Japanese government to serve blowfish, although he doesn't here, but that gives... More

It wasn't cheap and there was NOTHING special about the food. We tried non sushi menu items. The soft shell crab, tempura shrimp , and monk fish pate were very good. If you sit at the sushi bar you cannot order from the regular menu. If you want to order from the menu.... you need a table reservation. I thought... More

This place is definitely worth a visit. There is only one other place in the area that I think can truly compete fish wise. Don't expect to just walk in the door though, they're always super booked up. The experience is always a delight and tasty.

The sushi was not bad, but paled in comparison to what one can find down the coast in Los Angeles or up the coast in San Francisco. I tried the hirame (halibut), kanpachi (premium yellowtail) and aji (spanish mackerel) that were all supposedly from Japan and their best choices according to other diners. They were acceptable but surprisingly not the... More

I LOVE this place SO, SO much!! Absolutely, hands down the very best sushi I have ever had. This place is tiny, so yes, sometimes you have to wait for a table. Make a reservation if you don't want to wait. Or show up at 5:30 right when they open. Don't bring a large group, as I said before, this... More

What a wonderful lunch experience. We were there at 11:30 without a reservation and watched the restaurant fill quickly. The daily specials on the chalk board were tempting but I was there for the sashimi. There are two chef choice sashimi plates at $20 and $30. I selected the $20 plate and it was a wonderful assortment of beautifully prepared... More
