I don't care for raw fish, but there were plenty of other options to choose from. Loved the salmon! Good people watching right in the heart of Davis.

Japanese food, good sushi, slow service, high prices. Not the best sushi! If none of these descriptors are deterrents, convenient location and well prepared, tasty meals.
My wife and I ate there recently. Now it's fully in the hands of Scott and Amy, who took over Zen Toro when his father retired. Menu has some wonderful Hawaiian touches, as Scott was a sushi chef there for years. Japanese and Japanese-American friends in Davis cite Zen Toro for best-quality fish. I know that they source from a... More
Visited on Saturday night. Waited over ten minutes at the reception desk before even being acknowledged. Waited another fifteen to be sat at a cramped table in the back room. Waited another ten to place a drink order. Waited and waited for everything. Ordered appetizers. Waited some more and they brought out my entree. Just the one. There are four... More
Great sushi, good selection of saki (hot and cold), other Japanese favorite dishes. I see a lot of college kids eating big noodle bowls with great gusto. Always friendly staff.
We were a little worried booking this as a grad celebration lunch, but since everywhere else of note was booked, and our son had eaten dinner here a couple of times - we went ahead. Great experience! Sashimi platter was ready for our arrival (we brought our own champagne), excellent selection of fresh fish, large back room was perfect for... More
Party of 5. We had a VIP visitor we wanted to impress. It was a disaster. Three plates served 20 minutes after arrival. Fourth arrived 10 minutes later. The fifth 10 minutes after that even after I got up and told the waiter that it was unacceptable for that person to be kept waiting for so long. Diners who received... More
Good japanese food. The rolls are tasty, miso soup is very good too and the salad has a nice dressing. The lunch menu is a good and not very expensive choice.
We had one of the lunch specials which was a lot of food, since you start with soup and salad, at a very reasonable price. We ended with the fried ice cream which was delicious. Excellent service and tasty food.
Great food, be aware of rather big portions. Hard not to eat as it's very good hence we end up eating twice more than we should :) Really enjoyed rolls, creative and very tasty. Location (downtown Davis) makes it quite busy during lunch. Enjoy!
