This place was hard to find I drove around in circles and finally came across it. I arrived before the lunch rush and ordered a BBQ Pork sandwich, BBQ Beef sandwich, and BBQ spaghetti. The cashier and order taker wasn't happy to be working as...she had a frown on her face LOL, lady be happy that you have a job and are busy. The space is cramped but the good thing they take credit cards. I should've brought some wet wipes because it gets messy.More

I started coming here in the late 80's and now that I live 1,000 miles away, I still take every opportunity to stop in when I visit. Tastes like a campfire! The pork ribs and brisket are my favorite, but I've had everything else too...and it's all good. The greens are smoky and the baked beans are the best. I personally don't love the potato salad but my family does,. Most of the time I get the medium sauce because it's flavorful, but if I want a "kick" I get extra hot. It's got some burn to it, but it's not outrageous. Everyone has to try Jay Bees!More

It’s been seven years since I have been here. Food is still great. Absolutely has a lot of love in the kitchen. Staff was super friendly. Worth the two hour each way drive. I won’t be waiting that long to be back again.

This was my first time eating here but it won't be the last. I had the pork ribs and my husband had the chicken dinner. Both were really good. Dinners come with two sides so we had beans and Cole slaw which were ok but...nothing special. There are four picnic tables if you want to eat there. Other reviewers mentioned the location was "scary" but I don't agree. No, it's not in the best part of town but if someone asks you for spare change, you can just say no and that's the end of it. It's worth trying.More

I've had their BBQ beef sandwich, beef ribs, beef links, chicken, baked beans and Mac & Cheese (when they used to sell it). All of their food is good and in decent sized portions. Where they lack, attitude. The lady up front that has been...taking orders for at least 6 years (that's how long I've been going) has a terrible attitude. Don't even try asking a question. You'll get the most snark reply like "what does the sign say". When you go ask lil and just wait outside until they call.More

I have eaten here since high school and its still the best. I live in Hawaii now and crave the ribs if still today. whenever I go to LA I visit my Mom, friends and Jay bee ribs. I used to laugh because its the...only place you could see a gang banger sitting next to a cop, sitting next to a homeless man, sitting next to a business man, chowing down on some ribs. Great food brings the world together.More

This is a very unpretentious BBQ place, but the food is yum! We live all the ribs because all of the meat is cooked just right and falla off the bone tender..They have different levels of heat for the bbq,so everyone can enjoy. The sides we...like best are the potato salad and baked beans. It is a bummer tjat the sides are small portioned..but I notice this a lot in these type bbq places..they also have a spaghetti with bbq sauce that is on the spicy side, but real tasty...you get a slice of old school white bread to sop up their yum b q sauce..dont expect to dine in,though..u wait standing to gt ur food and only 2 bench tables outside..Enjoy!More

I came to Jay Bee's because I saw this on DDD. I was really disappointed. The pulled pork sandwich had to much BBQ sauce on it, and the sauce was not great. The ribs where like jerky, very dry and tough. The chicken was good,...coleslaw was very bland. It was really not work the drive to get over to the place.More

When people talk about BBQ and mention places like Lucille's or Dickie's, I just have to laugh. You can tell a REAL BBQ place as soon as you as you see it (some of you know what I'm talkin' about) and smell the aroma of...true BBQ floating in the air. You don't go looking for the real BBQ experience in some shopping mall or some fancy, shmancy house of fine dining. Jay Bee's is the REAL DEAL. The smoky pork or beef ribs. The rib tips. The chicken drenched in tasty BBQ sauce. This is BBQ heaven. The only place better is Phillips' in Leimert Park but that's another story. Some people complain the lady at the register is rude. Maybe it's because you can't make up your mind making all those people who do know wait that much longer. It's not like there's a whole lot of room waiting to place an order. Just get out of line until you figure out what the heck you want and I'll bet she seems a lot nicer when you do order. Don't mess with her and she won't mess with you. For the complete experience, don't forget to order a strawberry soda to wash down your meal. Maybe a slice of 7up cake too.More

I saw an old show on Triple D and decided to go out and visit this place. The place is out in the industrial areas and isn't much to look at. I went in and you could say the same of the interior. I ordered...the Baby Back Ribs with potato salad and cole slaw. The order came quickly and I headed home to get to eat'n. All the food produced was very good. I enjoyed it and will probably go back and visit them again. My only suggestion is that they do a little maintenance on the building exterior and interior and that they be a little happier to see their customers. (I heard the original lady owner has passed,I was sorry to hear that), and sometimes I think that effects the way a business is run. All in all, I would suggest to anyone who wants good BBQ. This is one of the places to go to!More

I grew up about 3 blocks from this place, but have since moved to Texas. I am a BBQ snob; I admit it. Let me tell you, this is hands-down the best BBQ I have ever had in my life! I love pork ribs, and...these ribs are fall-off-the-bone smoky tender goodness. The sauce is rich and flavorful. I usually order the medium or the hot. Be advised: the hot is hot! Don't be fooled by the modest appearance of the building. When I travel to Southern California, this is a must stop for me.More

I heard about this place from Guy Fieri diners drive-ins and dives (Food Network). I am familiar with this side of town (Gardena) because I work there for many years. I never knew Jay Bee's existed. From the outside, its a little green shack with...an outside patio. It is placed in the middle of an industrial area in the middle street. Inside...magic! A rare fine in So Cal: True southern BBQ. Extremely impress with service and the taste of the ribs. Warning: if you are not from the LA area, I have to stress this area is very close to Compton. Can be dodgey or dicey after dark. Best time to go there is daytime during the week days. I was there on a Saturday around two o'clock afternoon and met some interesting characters,More

I saw this restaurant on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives quite awhile ago. Even though it's only one hour from my house it wasn't convenient to drive up there until yesterday. I went there at 3:30 PM. I could smell the barbecue as soon as I...open the door to my car..heavenly!!! After arriving at the stand, I realized I was there at the perfect time. Parking was easy and there was no waiting in line! I immediately saw the sign that said they were out of rib tips and macaroni salad. I read ahead of time that rib tips were the thing to order so I was disappointed. But the cheerful woman behind the glass partition helped me with my order. Pork shoulder, pork ribs, potato salad, collard greens and baked beans. I could see that if it was crowded she would not be able to take that kind of time to help me. It was hot and stuffy while I was placing my order but it was all worth it! The barbecue sauce choices were mild, medium, hot and very hot. I went with medium and probably should've gotten mild. It was fine yesterday but reheating it today the sauce got hotter. Everything was delicious; the meat fell off the bones from the ribs. Heavenly for a BBQ lover!!More
