Excellent brunch with great service. Had a great time, great food and drinks. We all had huevos rancheros that was prepared perfectly.

We live in this town. First time we ate here we were rushed in, rushed out. Our food came before our drinks and although it was tasty, the portions were small and pricey. The second time, we had a reservation for my birthday, we wanted to give them another try. We arrived at the restaurant to a sign on the... More
This of this less as a Mexican/Latin restaurant than as Mexican/Latin influence on the Sonoma farm-to-table experience. The oysters were fresh and delicious with a slightly spicy mignonette. The lamb was perfectly cooked as was the fish. Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. There were good wine by the glass selections, too. It is a bit of an airy... More
Unfortunately a huge disappointment with very rude service. Food tasted as if it had been microwaved, and staff couldn't wait for us to leave. They even suggested we get pizza down the street!
We had been to Mateo's about a year ago and really enjoyed it. Went back this weekend and found that the menu had completely changed, so it was not what we were expecting. Still, the food was good, as well as the service. Our waitress described all of the dishes in detail. Really enjoyed the hot soup of the day,... More
We really like Healdsburg, and its many great places to eat. We'd read about Mateo's on TirpAdvisor and other sites, so gave it a try. We each ordered the prix fixed option (three appetizers and a main course - the waitress told us each would be a bit smaller than a traditional-sized portion). Half an hour later our first appetizers... More
This is not your standard Mexican fare. Mateo serves delicious and creative food, freshly prepared, with a surprise in the last bite (be in an egg that has exploded in the soup, or a perky pepper in the outstanding salad) with service that is so friendly and helpful. A wonderful experience.
Most folks think of "Sonoran" food as Mexican food. Mateo's is more like Mexican food as offered with southern Mexican, particularly Mayan, as designed by top chefs in major cities. My wife and I are fans of food we've found in urban Mexico City, and love the Yucatan and Chiapas, the homes of the Mayans. The combination of those were... More
I came here with my family last fall and the food was extremely appetizing, bright, colorful, fresh and refined. Chef Mateo came out to our patio table after we ate to answer all of our questions regarding his preparations and cooking techniques. He also gave us a complimentary tasting of his premium mezcal selection along with a fascinating lesson on... More
Food arrived cold. We were the only people in restaurant and it took 30ish min to get a bottle of wine. It was awful. Expensive, gross, salty, and so long to get basic service in an empty restaurant. Save your money and go elsewhere.
