We visited early evening, no rush, good collection, average price, friendly staff. We bought few items to remember Lone Pine.

Stopped on drive to Mammoth for Dinner. Their Hamburgers are great. The waitresses were very helpful. I expect to stop again(as in the past) for a very good dinner at Whitney Portal.

The friendly service and hubcap sized pancakes are enough to make the drive up the mountain worth it. Whether you're up to see the Mt. Whitney Trail entrance, hike to Lone Pine Lake, climb into the backcountry all the way to the top, or just look at the waterfall at the end of the parking lot, the Whitney Portal Store... More

Interesting gift items for sale and a small cafe too. Super friendly proprietor who was happy to chat about the walks etc around the area. I asked for two coffees and he said ' a dollar'. I thought he meant a dollar each, so I gave him two dollars, he said no, only one for both! What can you say... More

Stopped in here to get some advice on our Whitney hike--excellent advice by the way. Picked up a couple souvenirs. Sat out of the picnic tables and enjoyed the view. Munched down a huge helping fries and sipped on a cold beer. Life is good.

It's brilliant to have this place at the bottom of the Mt. Whitney descent. Whatever you've been eating, it hasn't been as good as the burgers from this place. Burgers may seem a little pricey, but they are great. And consider your options, There are none.

This is a nice place to get a cooked meal before or after your wilderness adventures. There are the usual t-shirts and such, some useful provisions and a nice little pond and waterfall nearby. If you aren't up for an all-day attack on the mountain, this little venue gives you a sense of the place.

Got breakfast and a dinner here. Just good filling food. I had the hamburger and fries. and for breakfast I had the eggs, bacon and hash browns. Everything was yummy. No long wait. Everyone is friendly and they have a bit of everything you might need for a hike.

The Whitney portal store is at the Mt.Whitney trailhead. They have great hospitality and some great hiker food. Cheeseburgers, fries and an assortment of trail gear for when you forget something. They have the best giant pancakes I have ever had. I have trouble trying to finish just one. They have soda and beer. They also have assorted trail bars for... More
