Very crowded. 1 hr waiting might be just normal there. Be there before they open. Recommend sushi bar for tasting all different. Their salad is good as well. It was the best sushi for me but a bit pricy

It is one of the best Japanese restaurants in LA, so far it is the best for me, but I have not been to every Japanese restaurants in LA, so I can not say it is the top one for everyone. My family (2 adults children included) all love having sushi there, and we have been there several times when... More

Worth the wait. Great, fresh sushi, and other menu items are good too (fried shrimp heads, tempura, miso, etc). The sake selection is awesome but not overwhelming. You will have such a good meal here, I'm jealous in advance that you're going.

Sushi Gen had fantastic sushi. My wife and I completely over ordered with a Sushi dinner and a Sashimi plate. We were very suprized to get that bill and it was just over $60 I would have expected to pay much more for that quality of sushi. The restaurant is small and you need to have a reservation, if you... Had a chance to eat at Sushi Gen tonight. What a wonderful meal. Everything was super fresh, tasty, prepared professionally and enjoyable. Chef Masa was excellent, as were his colleagues. Nothing was less than excellent. Will go back again and again. If you are looking for sushi in LA, this is the place. Prepare to wait for a table, sushi... More

Well I guess you could if there was no wait! Amazing deal for lunch if you can try to beat the wait. Parking lot is validated for a few dollars. Service is always speedy.

If you're looking for a very authentic sushi spot in DTLA-Sushi Gen is the place. Don't expect fusion or a bunch of specialty rolls. Do expect a real sushi experience at a spot who gets some of the first picks at local fish market. Sashimi deluxe is a great sampler to get some variety. They do have a few basic... More

I started eating at Sushi Gen shortly after if first opened, probably 20 years ago. The restaurant uses the freshest, highest quality fish I've ever tasted. I have never had a bad meal at Sushi Gen, and I suspect I've eaten there at least 100 times. There is a large sushi bar if you want to sit at the counter.... More

This is probably the best sushi in downtown. It's not cheap, but it's good. Make a reservation, because there will be a wait. But it's worth it.

They open at 11:15 am, but you'll need to get in line by 10:45 am to assure yourself of seating. And, get seated because the sushi special plate is absolutely the sushi at the best price anywhere in Little Tokyo. Hey, that's why the line starts to form at 10:30 am.
