Went here with high expectations because of so many reviews. It is indeed a hole in the wall place, really small and homey. But the food was decent at best.

Daichan is located in a strip mall just off Ventura Blvd. Validated parking is available in a small lot, with valets available presumably to handle the overflow. The decor is an eclectic mix of Asian bobbles and the menu reads like a newspaper. The food, however, is very good and the prices very cheap. I would strongly recommend the restaurant... More

Really liked the kitschy atmosphere here. It's like being in friends house. Everything was fresh and tasted great!

I met friends here for lunch recently, and although Japanese is not my go-to cuisine choice, I was pleasantly surprised by the deliciousness of the food. I chose the mixed poke (poki) bowl and it was sensational. The fish was very fresh and the sauce oh-so-umami. Pickled ginger also very tasty. Oh, we ordered tempura shrimp and veggies as an... More

A great little restaurant with amazing service. The place has a very homey feel in the best way possible. I feel like I'm visiting a friend's home when I'm here. The ramen and the udon here are great. The tempura in the soups are perfect. The batter has a great flavor, and it isn't over-fried. They have a great variety... More

Located in a typical mall on Ventura, this small Japanese restaurant will take you in another world of a traditional Japanese house, far from the usual sometime fancy sushi scene. The comfort food, the homy décor with a real Japanese service make you feel home. We had various appetizers (cold tofu bonito, sesame spinach, vegetable tempura, squid) and some great... More

If you love chicken katsu curry like I do, this is the place. And if you love great service - second that. This place is the best with reasonable prices to boot. The catch - average sushi. Don't expect great sushi, and you will walk away pleased.

A very local & low key Japanese restaurant that is refreshingly NOT trendy. We ordered To-Go. They were super nice on the phone and at pickup. The food was good, details below: Cucumber Bonito salad - Very refreshing with angular chunks of cucumber and with a nice contrast of salty Bonito. Tsukune Tofu - with chicken meatballs in sweet ginger... More

I have been to this fabulous little place many times and cannot believe I havent reviewed prior. This is one of those little gems that sits in the shadow of other big name and crowded eateries. From the first time you go in you are treated like a friend. They staff is pleseant, fast and friendly. The decor is like... More

Very charming place. Lots of wall decor and maybe a bit cluttered but some folks are into that. Food was hot and fresh, portions were good. The poke is recommended. Rolls and udon were also good and hearty. Seating is a bit tight so come early. Otherwise, can't go wrong here
