Great spot! Right near the beach, great priced drinks, and an amazing atmosphere! If you're in the area definitely stop by!

We were about to board a long haul flight and wanted a decent, fish meal to sustain us. On Bill's recommendation, we came to SHELLBACK TAVERN. McKenzie served us - she was super nice and efficient. We all had tasty fish meals to send us...on our way - we hope to revisit!More
I was visiting Manhattan Beach at the end of a short US work trip, upon recommendations. Its is a great place, and perhaps one of my favourite in all of USA. I was only there three days and visited Shellback each time. I LOVED the...place. The staff are friendly but respectful, the vibe is perhaps the least pretentious but most laidback, warm and welcoming of any pub or bar I've ever visited, including here in Australia/New Zealand but also anywhere else I've been lucky enough to go. The place just has a great vibe. Also (and surprising for US bars) they had not one but three non-alc beers for those who don't want to drink alcohol. Every time I went there I met some really great locals - all happy to keep to themselves but also very welcoming, warm, friendly and engaging. The bar crew were great. Different people but people like Joey and Ricco made me feel welcome. I felt safe and I it seemed the type of place where females would also feel safe - i.e. it didn't have that "pick-up" or "look at me" kind of feel. It has great views outside (perfect for sunset!) and is comfortable in its own skin. One of my very very favourite bars in the world. Thanks team!!!More
This is as close to a “dive bar” as you will get to in the upscale Manhattan Beach area. It loud, crowded, and a lot of fun. Staff is nice and prices are reasonable. Great way to end the night with some friends before you...all call it a night and head home.More
Classic dive bar in Manhattan Beach. Came here on a Tuesday night around 7 and there were a few people there, but it wasn’t as crowded as it typically is on weekends (when it’s packed with people). Indoor seating only, not outdoor spots. Credit cards...accepted. If you sit by the window, you can get a pretty nice sunset view. The women’s restroom is towards the front of the bar and there’s a big step in front of the toilets, while the men’s restroom is in the back left corner of the restaurant. The well tequila was smoother than I was expecting. They do have some food options if you’re feeling peckish. The atmosphere is really laidback and casual.More
Try to get there whenever we visit USA. Love the place. Ss Staff are fabulous and atmosphere is great The location is perfect for a lazy afternoon having a beer and looking out over the Pacific
One of the best dive bars in the world. Beautiful views of the sunset. Great jukebox. Friendly, attentive staff. Great burgers. Lovely bar merchandise available to purchase. We wish this place was on our doorstep!
Nice fun local Manhattan Beach “dive” bar with a very casual vibe. Best option is sticking with beer unless you want to get a little cra cra and do a round of “Fanta shots”! VictorB
Since we are still in the COVID-19 pandemic no more drinking allowed inside so the bar set up a few tables in the alley way with a partial ocean view. I wanted a beer on tap but you have to order food also - I...decided on a chicken taco. The beer on tap selection is from the big corporate companies and no small micro-beers. The taco was gringo style but was actually pretty good tasting with the small flour tortillas they used.More
Classic American bar. Near the beach. Alcohol is served. Lots of characters at the bar and lots of kitschy historical stuff posted behind it. What else do you need to know?
Pretty perfect dive beach bar. Service is very attentive and the menu is expected, but good! Some dishes seem to be a bit better than others. We really liked the grilled mahi tacos; the pieces of fish were nicely cooked and had great flavor. We...also got the fried fish tacos, but it is literally a triangle piece of fish that has been fried and put into a tortilla. It might be a little better if it were cut up first! We love how cozy the place is and how busy it gets. Fun!More
We wanted a laid back place for drinks. This is the place for that. It was filled with happy people of all ages talking and laughing. The interior is dark and unchanged for decades. The restroom made me glad I was a man and didn't...have to sit down. But being filled with locals enjoying each other's company made it very enjoyable. Drinks are decently priced and the chicken nachos was excellent. Plus, if you are near a window, the view of the pier is beautiful. If you want casual, this is the place.More
We dined at the Shellback Tavern and sad to say, the food was not near as tasty as in the past - I understand it is under newer management. You'll love the location but if you have eaten there before you'll see higher prices and...not the great quality as before. Also, we were there on a Sunday, football season, and hardly any diners - what's going on?More
This was our first visit. We ordered calamari rings and a medium pizza with shrimp. The calamari was delicious! The pizza was okay. The most disappointing part was each slice had one tiny piece of shrimp on it. Talk about being cheap. The service was...average. The prices are comparable to like establishments. They had plenty of TV's with games on to watch.More
Cramped, loud, open air, beach casual, TVs everywhere on a Saturday afternoon drinking a 24th Street Pale Ale watching college football. It doesn't get better than this.
