There were only a few folks in the bar when I arrived, but it seemed to take an awful long time to get service. Once the waitress acknowledged me things picked up and she was very friendly. The broccoli cheese soup was much too think for my liking, but I was excited for my baked fish. After a few bites... More

Merry Christmas. I'm sorry to hear that your visits to the Gold Coin have been so disappointing. I would, of course, like to hear more specifics; we work very hard to make your patronage as enjoyable as possible. I welcome your input regarding our menu and views on how we can make our serve staff more pleasant. You can reach... More

Passing through the quaint town of Mariposa CA just outside of Yosemite and stopped for lunch at Betts Gold Coin. Great food 😄 ! Between 3 of us we had a taco salad, a chicken wrap and a steak sandwich - and everyone was pleased and would return. The steak on that sandwich was between 3/4 and one inch thick... More

Bar patrons huddled outside the entrance smoking their cigarettes because of the indoor smoking ban. I don't mind that, actually prefer it. When they come inside though, they drag the smoke smell in with them. We were sitting at a table not more than four feet away from the bar, most of the tables are that close. The main reason... We went here because someone at the museum told us about the history of the building. We were waiting for dinner reservations and enjoyed watching the game to kill time. They had a binder about the building's history which we flipped through while we were having drinks. The staff was straight forward but nice, which I appreciate. I don't need... More

We both enjoyed our meals at the bar, and met some great folks from Australia during the meal. I had a Cobb Salad and husband had a burger. The bartender changed the station on one of the TVs so we could watch the BSU Broncos game.

Didn't eat here just went for drinks. Don' t waste your time & money. Wanted a local beer. Only one one tap, none in the fridge. So ordered the margarita that was the special. It was ablsolutely the worst margarita I have ever had. Then to add do insult to injury, a waiter took care of us but when we... More

After several days of unsuccessful meals on the road, I was pleased to find a place that made simple yet delicious food. We ordered a pork quesadillia and a fried shrimp meal; both were delicious. This is a funky town joint with a lovely bar interior and Josh was super nice and helpful - though they did stop making their... More

As one drives into town from Merced on the 140 this is one of the first restaurants one encounters and being hungry we went on in! The building itself is an old adobe and one of the more historical sites in this old gold rush town,it's nicely decorated with period artifacts and paintings. I took advantage of the daily special... The “story” of the modern Gold Coin Restaurant and Tavern is very complex. I guess the history of the “Coin” and its home in the old Fremont Adobe is not simple either. That’s why the term “Where History Lives” is most appropriate.Linda, and her sister Betty, had a dream. A Sports Tavern in Mariposa. Several years ago, Betty was killed in a motorcycle accident and Linda decided to fulfill their dream. Then it happened! She talked with Helen Kwalwasser, who was restoring the old Fremont Adobe building, built in 1849-50, as the headquarters for the Las Mariposas mining properties, has a colorful past. The original “Gold Coin Bar” was originally established shortly after prohibition ended, by the Greenamyer brothers with proceeds from their lucky strike at the old Gold Coin Mine in northern Mariposa County. After being abandoned for more than 20 years, Helen took on the massive task of restoring this historic Mariposa icon. All she needed was a tenant and along came Linda. The “Coin” is like no other dining and beverage experience in the Mother Lode area; perhaps in the West. The atmosphere gives the “historic” feel of the time when this building was in its prime. The gold mines are gone with little to remind us of this colorful part of our western heritage but the “Coin” is here and thriving! There are those who say that the “spirits” of those early pioneers, prospectors and minors are still among us. We won’t argue. We think that those spirits are alive and well and have played a major role in why the “Coin” is what it is today! As Bob likes to say, we are the “brush” and I can only suspect who is controlling the “hand”!
