I stopped by for a breakfast dish and was not disappointed. Fresh berries, sausage, French toast was a filling meal. You order at the counter and your meal is then served at your table of choice. Easily located and friendly staff made this a great find.

After an hour of walking around getting disappointed at the lack of veggie options we stumbled across this fab place. Affordable and super friendly, thoroughly recommend! Good wine and food :)

Great little unpretentious café/restaurant serving simple food with a Mediterranean bias at reasonable prices. It seems to attract a diverse crowd, and we shared the cafe with street entertainers, businessmen, local youngsters and some fellow tourists which helped create an informal ambiance. Cheapest and one my favorite dining experiences during my two week tour of California.

Really excellent food, large portions and laid back atmosphere. This cafe was a really mellow atmosphere with friendly staff and good food, what more can you ask for when your on vacation. It appeared to be a place for locals too. They had everything from omelets to sweets. Really excellent home fry potatoes, thick sliced bread (my favorite rye swirl)... More

By coincidence my friend and I found this nice café the first day we spend in Monterey on our roundtrip in California. We really enjoyed it and came back twice the following days! The homemade italian food was delicious and reasonable priced. You pay when You order. Easy and efficient - and finallly we enjoyed the relaxed and cosy atmosphere.

Need pizza and beer? Espresso and a sweet? This place has you covered with fast, friendly service and terrific prices. There is WiFi and you have the option of inside or al fresco. This was across the street from the Monterey Hotel and became my go-to place very quickly. I highly recommend.

If you are staying in downtown Monterey, ditch the hotel breakfast and walk down to the Caffe Trieste on Alvarado. The breakfasts are awesome and great value, and the service is really friendly and fast. Could not be more happy with our two visits whilst holidaying here with friends. All four of us were impressed both times.

Thank Richard F

Established in 1956. Caffe Trieste opened the first coffee house on the West Coast in 1956. Since then, Caffe Trieste has been serving up optimum quality Espresso coffee and fabulous music for well over a half a century in San Francisco. Giovanni Giotta - THE FOUNDER, who in 1950 had emigrated to San Francisco, California, from the small fishing town of Rovigno, Italy (now part of Croatia). Missing the espresso houses of Trieste, Italy, Giotta opened his own cafe. Caffe Trieste is said to be the first espresso house on the West Coast. Now, Caffe Trieste brings its fabulous coffee and tradition to Monterey Peninsula. Enjoy superb Coffee drinks, gourmet pastries and a light fare Italian menu in casual setting.
