We've been frequent visitors to Spikes, but it seems that with the proliferation of micro breweries it is losing it's charm and quality.

Good Selection of Beer and Ciders, good food, decent customer service. I like the place, I like the food, but I always seem to get the same person serving me who seems... distracted. I'd definitely rate it higher if I felt like the bartender was more engaging.

This place is an occasional indulgence. They have a world of beer, and although I don't like heavy beers, I can always find a good lager or pilsner to drink from their menu. The food is nothing fancy, but it's not over priced and accompanies their beers well, burgers, nachos, potato skins, etc. It's been in SLO a long time... More

I used to frequent Spikes back when I was in school, thought it'd be fun to take a trip down memory lane and grab a beer. We ordered two beers and two burgers... Our server was horrible. Bad attitude, he was intrusive, never checked on us. When we needed something we had to get up and go to him... when... More

The service was friendly, the beer selection was ample and the food was good. I had both the Tuesday taco special and the Ortega burger with fries. Yum!

Rustic old beer pub in the heart of San Luis Obispo, and a change of pace from the bars that are crowded with the loud college crowd. Great beer selection and pretty good bar food as well. We had their potato skins, and they were quite good. My only complaint was that payment and receipts are electronic (which I don't... More

Great beer selection, okay service and moderate prices, but a nice change of pace from the other younger skewing (college) bars downtown. Actually worth hanging around for a bit if you can grab one of the booths!

I went with a few friends to this restaurant. They refused to give us separate checks, and some of our friends left early. When we got the bill, we struggled to figure out why we hadn't collected enough money. It took us a while to see that we were all charged an 18% tip. I am not a stingy tipper,... More

This is a good place to get a good beer and have some comfort food. Sit down try the many beers, food and good atmosphere. They are located in the old Creamery Building and you can visit other local hangout in the Creamery.

Spike's place was one of the first restaurants to serve a variety of craft beers. In the early days, patrons were encouraged to try all 40 of the beers on the menu (NOT all at once), and when you did, you got a tshirt and a plaque on the wall. All of us who "drank around the world" learned about... More
