The views are the best, I come here for the views. The food is average and prices are a little on the high side for what you are getting. I would definitely come back on a beautiful day for the views.

The New Haven Register says "The Blue Oar is a lovely place. Casual, cool and convivial, it’s situated in a small marina on the banks of the Connecticut River." I have eaten there about 4 or 5 times. I always enjoyed the summer atmosphere with people driving up to the dock in their boats to get a meal. It features... More

On a beautiful late summer afternoon or evening, there's no better place to place to sit outside and watch the boats on the Connecticut River, while enjoying good food. The Blue Oar is cash only and BYOB. We recently visited on a beautiful breezy Sunday evening. It was quite crowded, but we still got our food without too much of... More

I'll admit that based on some of the most recent reviews, I was a little hesitant to try the Blue Oar. I would advise bringing your own table cloth as all seating is outdoors and the metal tables are just general dirt magnets. But the service was good, and the food was very good. We were a party of four... More

We were in the mood for some New England clam chowder to round out our visit to Gillette Castle State park. Staff here is very welcoming and friendly. Will definitely return at some point with friends and family.

Very casual setting, bathroom is not close by, so,plan ahead, but the food is good and you can enjoy it with your own wine and sit outside! Look forward to going back.

I enjoyed the location with friends, coming in off the river. Food was OK. Probably the best were the crab cakes. Wouldn't seek this restaurant out from land.

Good food in an old river snack bar. Table & picnic tables under the trees and next to river. Order at the counter and food is delivered to your table. good sandwiches and dinners.

Food is a little expensive for what you get but it's decent. They have decent desserts as well. Bring your own wine/beer. Visit more for the location.

The Restaurant is riverside with a nice view of the Connecticut River and a marina. The menu is mostly what I would call fast food. The prices are on the higher side. I think that's because they are seasonal, and also taking advantage of the location. All seating is outdoors either on a picnic table or a small metal table... More
