Thought we would give the Talbot another try after a few years. We were thoroughly disappointed. We ordered starters, my wife's Mushroom risotto was only half cooked (crunchy rice) our daughters gravadlax whilst looking very nice, was served with a half slice of bread literally...More

A lovely inn with comfortable rooms. Not sure what some people expect but I found this place charming, a pretty place for a wedding, lovely garden area for chatting with friends and a cosy pub and guest lounge (mind the beams lol). Breakfast was a...More

Historic coaching inn, but with modern rooms in a new block at the rear. Evening food very good, but the buffet (non-cooked)breakfast not so great. Limited choice generally and virtually no fruit provided. Could improve this greatly at very little effort and cost.

Awful service - forgotten in the corner for 25 minutes and had to ask 3 times to be served. At one point we asked for some bread for the table and they brought what was quite obviously a store bought loaf. Vegetarian options were uninspired...More

We booked for Sunday lunch...... what a mistake! We waited 20 minutes for our pre dinner drinks. Main meals came minus the veg but plus an oak leaf. The reasons for the appalling service was the kitchen was busy! Why then take our reservation! They...More

The hotel has a nice ambience, although there is weird vinyl fake wood flooring in the bar. Sheltered sunny outdoor terrace for lunch, and airy dining area. Service was very good but the BLT was slapped together without much care and was very ordinary.

I stayed here on a business trip and found the bedroom quite spacious and well laid out. The beer garden at the back of the hotel is quite nice but I did find the breakfast in the morning not the best. The food was overcooked...More

Met a friend for a quick lunch, asked to sit outside on the rear terrace which is a nice sun trap. Ordered "fresh" sandwiches, one a gravelax, the other pulled pork. Both are served with salad and stringy fries. The bread on both sandwiches was...More

I bought a Travelzoo voucher for the Talbot, and called a month before to reserve a table and tell them we had the voucher etc. So we turn up at 7.30pm, and they had no reservation noted for us!? Very strange, oh well can we...More

Spacious traditional style restaurant, combined with a large and airy garden room extension overlooking the large rear garden. A welcoming place to eat or chill in that garden when the sun's out. The menu is varied and reasonably priced, the staff are welcoming, service is...More

A famed coaching inn with a restaurant in the leafy village of Ripley, just a short drive from nearby Woking, The Talbot is said to have been the place at which love blossomed between Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton. It's not just this tale that gives The Talbot such a sense of romance, from the traditional old beamed pub area to the glamorous glass backed restaurant, The Talbot is an obviously special place. Spacious and modern, the restaurant is light and airy during the day, a cosier feel falling over the room after dark, while outside, a beautiful garden and champagne terrace are the ideal al fresco spots. With an AA Rosette to its name, The Talbot offers food of a very high standard, garnering a mention in the Michelin guide. Chef Gavin Chilcott creates not only pub style classics, a must in the 15th century bar, but stylish modern British dishes with a strong focus on locality and seasonality.
