We shared 2 half and half sixteen inch pies: Crabmeat pizza was our favorite. It was really unique especially when one of the fresh lemon slices was spritzed on. Our next favorite was the eggplant, although I don't know how much eggplant I was able to taste because the breading was the dominant topping flavor. The Italian bomb was good,... More

Very friendly staff, more so than any of the other top-noted pizza houses in New Haven, accommodating, and not too fast-paced. The pizza is excellent and always provided hot. Their competitors have not always been able to provide this simple, yet important service. For me, the best pizza in New Haven.

Modern is consistently the best pizza in a town famous for its pizza. Tasty, great crust, great toppings.

Delicious thin crust pizza baked in a brick oven. Try the white clam pizza with fresh tomato slices and fresh basil or the eggplant pizza with red sauce. The line outside attests to the popularity of this establishment. If you want soft lights and music - this is NOT the place for you. But if you want fantastic pizza -... More

So many pizza ovens in this town, and this one is worth a stop. All the usual selections of toppings, and many house combos to choose from. Crust is fairly thin and we like that, red sauce has a good flavor. Marghertia pie was good, but slightly wet (not quite soggy), the meatball & caremalized onion was better.

The pizza top at Modern has very good flavor. The crust is a little to thin for my taste as well as it being well done. Those who like thin well done crust will enjoy it. It's not for me.

If you are ever in the New Haven area, definitely make sure you get some pizza! So many great choices, and you will definitely find people firmly in the camp of at least one of the famous few: Pepe's/Sally's/Bar/Modern. I personally love Bar and Modern the best - and both are different styles, so my love need not be exclusive!... More

Great brick oven pizza without the crazy lines on Wooster Street. Come early and you will get seated right away. Not a diverse menu but you're there for the famous New Haven pizza!

Great spot for the real Neapolitan style pizza. Our favorite is the sausage, but its all good. The tourists go to Wooster St - the locals come here!
