Stopped here by myself after shelling. Prices are fairly high, service quick. Small amount of scallops for the money.

This is a great stop for lunch on a sunny afternoon; the menu is typical 'clam shack' fast food and is extensive. Prices are most reasonable and service is friendly and fast. Parking is available on the street and while there is often a line, it moves quite quickly. The long hot dogs are great, onion rings excellent and chowder... More

If you live in New England you have to have a favorite clam shack. We've been going to Fred's Shanty in New London since we lived a few blocks away in the 1980s. We still go many times each season. It isn't fancy cuisine, but it is great clam shack faire. Our favorite is the cheese dog: a footlong with... More

first- this place is only open in the warmer months, but once it does open there is limited parking. We usually park on a side street and walk over. Whole belly clams are great, everything is fried or grilled and I think the fresh air makes it all taste better. See you there in May!

I've always liked their fried clams and onion rings...together with a lemonade, feeling the breeze from the water.

Fred's has been in New London for so long, I do not remember it not being there. The Original Fred is no longer there, but it looks like he has his hand in things as it is as good as always. You do not go there to heat healthy food. You go to eat YUMMY food! The biggest thing that... More

Good food and reasonable prices. Quick service and outdoor seating. I had a burger and fries. Great take out spot. Parking can be tough at peek hours.

Freds is right next to a marina on the Thames River in New London. It is a seasonal restaurant, with an order/pick up window and outside picnic table dining only. Great food, fresh seafood of all kinds as well as burgers and ice cream for the non-seafood lovers.

Every year I stop in for my favorite fish sandwich and fries. Fred's Shanty is a busy place in the summer, but living near by, I have the advantage of the spring and fall times that they are open. I believe they have the best fries around! Pequot Avenue offers a great drive, so stop at Fred's for scenery and... More

We went to Fred's with a group of about 12. Seating is at picnic tables on each side of the restaurant, and we had no trouble finding seats. The food is fairly inexpensive ($8 for 4 chicken tenders, cole slaw and fries), and it is plentiful. Mine was good, but not outstanding. The place sits right on the water, so... More
