We have not eaten at this restaurant for a couple years now and are wonder why it took so long to return. Two people split their Ahi Tuna salad, which very good. Three of us ordered the New York steak with home made fries. One had duck, another hand scallops and another had at fagitta. Without exception the meals were... More

We have been going here since it opened, never treated like this, experienced rushed impersonal service. When we finished our appetizers and were not ready to order dessert, we were presented with the bill. We were planning on ordering more food and drinks. Clearly it was busy! When I finished my glass of wine, one of the young men, brought... More

Year in and and year out Cafe Routier has maintained a standard of excellence which places it in the top tier of any restaurants on the shoreline. The menu changes seasonally and their autumn menu is terrific. Old standbys like meat loaf and trout are still there; the salmon is superb--I'm not sure if I've ever have had a bad... More

Three of four diners in our party enjoyed their dinner entrees, consisting of two catfish, one duck. The fourth ordered meatloaf.l Not a good choice. Better to arrive early because the restaurant becomes crowded as the evening progresses and the noise level is a major distraction. Fine if you enjoy the "ambiance" of a large crowd, not if you enjoy... More

The menu changed and we were lucky to find other delights from the Pacific Northwest; fish (salmon, monkfish, trout, cod, etc. ) all uniquely prepared in Café Routier's gourmet fashion. Having dined there numerous times, lounge or dining room, and never been disappointed, we agreed that Café Routier would be the choice for our anniversary celebration dinner. The appetizers, cocktails,... More

There are very few places along the eastern shoreline that you can dine. This is one of them. Good ambience, not overly loud and interesting menu. If you don't see what your hankering for look towards the bar menu. The bar lounge is also a nice place to eat if you want a little less formal

Last night we had a delightful meal at Cafe Routier. Everything was excellent, the food, service and overall evening experience. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. My wife had the Scallops, i had the Hanger Steak we shared the PEI Mussels as an appetizer and finished off the dinner with Ice Cream Puffs. Everything was VERY good and would recommend... More

Just stopped by when one of our favorite haunts in Old Saybrook was closed. Those fries ARE special. Food was really solid. Bar was buzzing with interesting mix of locals, marina folks and summer $$$. Great entertainment.

They changed the seating arrangements so that now there are booths in the bar instead of tables and chairs, but other than that Cafe Routier remains superb in every way. The bar is cozy and comfortable ( somehow the dining room just doesn't feel as inviting), the service is warm and professional and the food is outstanding. With the bar... More
