First ate at this place when I was a teenager which was 55 years ago. The Captains Platter was less than $5.00 and would whip you like a mean stepmother. Prices have gone up, but the quality and attention to detail has never changed. Not many family owned, family run seafood restaurants left on the Gulf Coast…..and none with this view. Thanks, Captain Jane, for holding it all together, all these years

We have been patrons of Capt. Dave’s for 28 years and they never disappoint. Situated on the white sands of Destin/Miramar Beach, the wall to wall windows offer spectacular views of the Gulf of Mexico. The Grouper Ponchartrain is good - as are many of the dishes - but the Stuffed Shrimp Parmesan is SINFULLY DELICIOUS and will change your mind about your favorite restaurant. It has been a few years since our last visit to Destin and we were going to visit another place for our last night of vacation, but after experiencing this dish again, we were reminded how incredible it was and chose to make another round at Capt. Dave’s. And it doesn’t hurt that it’s directly across from our condo! Alexander was great and waited on us both nights. He accommodated us by diluting the sweet tea (basically syrup - sweeter than McAllister’s). With a great location, good service, spectacular views, and amazing food, we will never miss an opportunity to visit Capt. Dave’s while in Destin.

My wife had the scallops wrapped with Applewood bacon in a maple mustard sauce, and I had the Grouper Pontchartrain. It's broiled grouper, topped with a saft-shelled crab and topped with a nasil bearnaise sauce and honey roasted almonds. With were out of this world!

So let me first say this, I leave a review for every restaurant I visit when I am traveling. I do this because i feel that it is helpful in some ways to determine if you actually want to eat there. With that being said, it has been several years since. I ate at Captain Dave’s. We were staying in Panama City beach, but drove over to the mall and decided to stay in Destin for dinner. Big mistake..HUGE. The entire meal with the exception of the grilled shrimp was awful. We started with calamari and crab claws. The calamari was cold, thereby making it greasy and chewy. The marinara was warmer than the dish itself. The crab claws were way overcooked to the point that there was barely any edible meat on them. Let me stop here and say that this restaurant opens at 4 and we were there at 6. They were not on a long wait, so one would think they should be at the top of their game. From there we had 1) sample platter, 1) lobster tail meal, and 1) grilled shrimp. The mahi mahi was good on the sampler ans were the scallops. The oysters were muddy tasting, the crab cake was wayyyy overcooked , for a dish that cost $41 I would hope that more than 50% would have been edible. The lobster tail on the second dosh was so over cooked you couldn’t cut it with a knife. The accompanying salad contained literally 1 slice of cucumber and 1 cherry tomato. That was it! The grilled shrimp dish was phenomenal! They were large shrimp cooked to perfection and seasoned well. However, for $210 I can safely say they won’t be back to this restaurant any time soon. Save your money and eat somewhere else.

We have been coming to Destin for years and this was a recommendation so we finally decided to try it. First it has great location in Miramar Beach right on the ocean. We sat inside with a nice ocean view. The menu has a good variety. We each had a frozen drink and they were weak and nothing special. Started with the coconut shrimp ...good not great but at least they weren't frozen, but 5 shrimp for an appetizer portion is skimpy. had the Stuffed Shrimp, the actual seafood quality was fine, but there were so many onions in the sauce it ruined it for me....who puts chunks of onions in parmesan cream sauce??? My husband had the Cajun Redfish, which was also decent. The twice baked potato was a bit dry and bland and the hush puppies were sooooo dry they crumbled. Prices are high as they are everywhere in Destin. This place just doesn't warrant this kind of pricing, while the seafood is adequate the atmosphere is not great other then the ocean view its dirty, loud, and nothing to speak of inside the night we went. The A/C was also broken when we came (No Points Docked for this) There are just to many GREAT restaurants to waste time here.

This was my second visit to this restaurant and it was wonderful! We were seated quickly and had drinks on the table within minutes. We arrived at a good time because right after it became extremely busy. Our waiter was awesome and very attentive! The food was hot and delicious. I had the fried oysters and fried mahi mahi. The table had apps of fried crab claws and grilled bacon wrapped scallops that were great. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. The view is a plus also.

Another over priced Destin seafood restaurant. Dark paneling, dark carpet and cheap tables and chairs. It reminded me of an Elk's or VFW club. My gumbo was cold. The house salad had 1 cherry tomato and 1 cucumber slice with bad lettuce. The prices are insanely high. $ 22 for a breast of chicken when it's $2.49 per lb. at Aldi. $59.99 for snow crab. Most fish dishes were $40 w/ no house salad included. Prices at least 30-40% more than the Tampa Bay Area. A small sirloin is $31..I can get a 6oz sirloin w/ 4oz. lobster w/ salad and a side for $19.99 at Outback. The windows were so dirty I could barely see the Gulf of Mexico

We visited again with another family. This place is very kid friendly. I do recommend getting there early if you have a larger party and/or are dining with kids. We arrived at 430 and were seated right away but by the time we were leaving there was a bit of a wait. Cocktails were good. All entrees were good sized and quality. The kids loves the hush puppies and the fresh house made key lime pie was a great way to end the meal.

This is hands down the best restaurant in the Destin area. We would eat here every night if we could. Everything we've ever eaten here was delicious and well prepared. They serve fish grilled, broiled, or fried. Portions are large and the food is fresh. You can tell it's cooked to order and seasoned perfectly. It's right on the beach with large windows looking out on the ocean. Another reason we love coming here is the place is all indoors with air conditioning. The other restaurants along the beach are open-air. This is Florida in the summertime. The ocean breeze doesn't come up that far and you can't enjoy a meal when you're burning up. Captain Dave's is beautiful and comfortable. Do be prepared for a wait, but they have a large area downstairs with tables and chairs plus a bar so you don't have to stand around the front of the restaurant. Take note they aren't open on Tuesdays.

They opened at 4pm and we got there at 4:20pm and although it was already crowded, we were seated immediately. They have plenty of parking right across the street. The view is absolutely beautiful! Our server was very polite and accommodating. The prices are up there, but the amount of food you get is worth it. Everything we had was delicious (fried shrimp, fried flounder, hush puppies, fries, cole slaw, baked potato, and cocktails). We were back outside walking on their pier to the gulf by 5:30pm. Even though we didn’t have small children with us, we observed other waiters being very interactive and helpful with families with some little ones.

We were looking for some amazing fresh fish. What we received was a piece of fish swimming in grease. It wasn't good at all! I had the snapper Jane and he had the Mahi, Mahi, parmesan, we both had the twice baked potatoes ( they tasted old). Wouldn't recommend it!😪

The experience this time wasn’t as good as my last. I ordered a rum runner and coconut shrimp as an appetizer. Both were average tasting, although the prices were not average. I ordered snapper jane, twice-baked potato, and cole slaw. I informed the waiter that I may want another drink - it was never offered. The waiter was very concerned about properly serving my friend’s wife (gluten allergy), but not so much the rest of us. The food was good, but the waiter was sub-par. My friends have been waited on by him before, and we were the only other time we were in there. I was disappointed, and probably won’t go back. He told us that the business has been slow, and he guessed it was because of the season. I think maybe the service has been slacking.

Our coconut shrimp appetizer was great, served crispy and hot. Downhill after that. Salad was iceberg with salty gummy Italian dressing. We both ordered the charbroiled grouper with different sides. Grouper was way too salty. Wild rice was bland and sticky so I mixed the too-salty fish in with that and ate some that way. I’ve had hush puppies in other restaurants that were crispy, delicious, and decadent. These hush puppies were warm, dry, and rubbery. Twice baked potato was ok. Collard greens had some terrible spice. One server asked about our entrees early in the meal and we said the fish was too salty but there was no follow up. Later our server came by to ask and we told her. She offered to fix or recook the fish but the meal was almost over at that point. No discounts offered on our bill and we decided not to dispute. Perhaps this place has good fried seafood but not higher end entrees.

Capt Dave's is closed in December & January. We stopped in in mid February. Their wait staff comes back as a group. We had the bacon wrapped scallops for an appetizer which is worth the 12 minute wait that this requires. It is excellent. I had the Mahi parmesan which is outstanding. My wife had the grouper with grit cakes.

Food was super expensive. For what you pay, you should at least get edible food. I ordered the snapper Jane. It was served floating in butter with some Parmesan sprinkled on top. I could find any crab meat on it. It was nothing like the menu description. My young nephew did enjoy his large corn dog. I would leave a one star but since he enjoyed his corn dog I’m leaving a 2 star review.
